(Baldwin/Niagara/Indian Hills CC) 2017-18 (Sophomore, Indian Hills CC): Earned NJCAA Division I and NABC All-America honors, averaging 16.6 points, 2.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He helped the Warriors to a 33-1 record, with their only loss coming in the second round of the NJCAA Tournament. Gatling matched the Indian Hills school record for 3-pointers made in one season at 102, on his way to Region XI Player of the Year honors. He shot 39 percent from 3-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line. The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Gatling was named MVP of the 2018 NJCAA Coaches All-Star game in Las Vegas, in May, scoring 22 points and dishing out six assists. 2016-17 (Freshman, Niagara): Averaged 4.7 points in 33 games for the Purple Eagles out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He shot 34 percent from 3-point range (30-88) and 73 percent from the free throw line (19-26). High School: A 2016 graduate of Baldwin High School. A three- year starter, Gatling helped the Bruins to a 49-7 record, including a perfect 33-0 mark in league play. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a senior, leading Baldwin to the Long Island AA championship. Gatling earned 2016 Newsday All-Long Island AA First Team and All-Tournament Team honors. He was a two-time All-New York State Public High School Team selection and a two-time member of the Long Island High School Basketball Honor Roll. Academics: An Ethnic Studies major with emphasis in critical sport studies at Colorado. Personal: Shane Gatling was born on March 26, 1998, in Queens, N.Y. He is the son of Cathy and Wayne Gatling and has one sister, Shayna. He is a cousin of former NFL All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. Gatling enjoys playing the piano, drums and video games. His favorite professional teams are the New York Knicks and the Oklahoma City Thunder. (Middlebrooks Academy [L.A. Calif.]) 2017-18 (Freshman): Averaged 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game as a first-year Buffalo. He led the team in field goal percentage (.503) and was second on the team in rebounding. Came off the bench for the first 12 games of the season, but was inserted in the starting lineup for the Pac-12 Conference opener at Oregon State (12/29) and stayed there for the final 21 games. He scored a career-best 14 points in that initial start against the Beavers, hitting 5 of 8 from the field along with four rebounds. Averaged 7.0 points and 5.3 rebounds during Pac-12 play while shooting 54 percent from the field. Ranked 13th in blocks and 19th in rebounding in the Pac-12 during conference games. He had a team-high 16 steals with 18 blocked shots against 19 turnovers during that span. Recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a personal-best 11 rebounds against Washington (1/20). He had team highs with 11 points, seven rebounds and a personal-best three blocks at Washington (2/17). Logged his second double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Pac-12 Tournament win over Arizona State (3/7). Earned the team’s Best Defender Award following the season.
