Various Home Styles and Types VARIOUS HOME STYLES AND TYPES Real estate in the Prince George’s and Charles County areas of Maryland is very diverse. The homes differ by style and type, single family detached or attached garaged townhomes. The exterior styles can be either - Colonial, Split Level, Split Foyer, Rambler/Rancher, Cape Cod, Victorian, and Contemporary. Some examples are below examples below. SPLIT FOYER The Split Foyer home has been popular for cost effective construction for about 25 years. The average Split Foyer will have 3 bedrooms and 1 to 2 full baths, living room, dining room and kitchen on the main level and finished or unfinished lower level. These homes are generally built on a slab and not below ground. SPLIT LEVEL The Split Level home can be three or four levels with three levels showing above ground. Main level will be the living room, dining room, and kitchen. Upper level will be 3-4 bedrooms and 1- 2 baths. The lower level will have a family room and laundry. There may be a fourth level, but in Waldorf, many homes are built without basements. RAMBLER The Rambler or Rancher is a true one level home although there may be a basement. The Rambler/Rancher will usually have living room, dining area, kitchen, three bedrooms and 1-2 baths on one level. The home may or may not have a basement. COLONIAL Colonials have become the most popular in the past fifteen years as families grow. Families with more than 2 younger aged children like the upstairs bedroom configuration, with all bedrooms on one level. Generally these homes will have a living room, dining room, kitchen with a great room/family room on the main level. The colonial features 3-4 bedrooms and 1-2 baths on the upper level often with master bedroom/bath. Many of the Colonial style homes will have a 2 car garage with fully finished basements. CAPE COD The Cape Cod imported from New England, offers parents of teenage children the opportunity to keep a long eye on activities. With the living room, dining room, usually 1-2 bedrooms on the main level along with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath on the upper level. It's a popular style due to charm of the design and bedroom location. TOWN HOME Town homes come in several styles, two levels, three levels, two levels with a basement (have become increasingly popular) and three levels with a garage. Generally there will be 3-4 bedrooms and 1-2 baths on the upper level and a living room, dining area and kitchen on the main level. If there is a basement it may be finished. .
