Plant Archives Vol. 14 No. 1, 2014 pp. 87-96 ISSN 0972-5210 AN UPDATED ACCOUNT OF THE NAME CHANGES OF THE DICOTYLEDONOUS PLANT SPECIES INCLUDED IN THE VOL: I (1934- 36) & VOL: II (1938) OF “FLORA OF ASSAM” Rajib Lochan Borah Department of Botany, D.H.S.K. College, Dibrugarh - 786 001 (Assam), India. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Changes in botanical names of flowering plants are an issue which comes up from time to time. While there are valid scientific reasons for such changes, it also creates some difficulties to the floristic workers in the preparation of a new flora. Further, all the important monumental floras of the world have most of the plants included in their old names, which are now regarded as synonyms. In north east India, “Flora of Assam” is an important flora as it includes result of pioneering floristic work on Angiosperms & Gymnosperms in the region. But, in the study of this flora, the same problems of name changes appear before the new researchers. Therefore, an attempt is made here to prepare an updated account of the new names against their old counterpts of the plants included in the first two volumes of the flora, on the basis of recent standard taxonomic literatures. In this, the unresolved & controversial names are not touched & only the confirmed ones are taken into account. In the process new names of 470 (four hundred & seventy) dicotyledonous plant species included in the concerned flora are found out. Key words : Name changes, Flora of Assam, Dicotyledonus plants, floristic works.

Many plant-derived natural compounds have demonstrated antiviral effects. These plants can provide an alternative way to new antiviral. Core protein of HCV has ability to interact with a wide range of viral and cellular proteins, including proto-oncogenes. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, total of 421 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) positive patients were subjected by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The correlation of genotype with continuous and categorical variables was analyzed. Furthermore, antiviral activity of indigoferra gerardiana (IG) was tested against core protein of HCV. The amplied complete core protein of HCV genotype 3a was sequenced and cloned. IG was extracted and screened against core protein of HCV 3a genotype in cell line. Results: Genotype 3a was the common genotype type of HCV (n=363, 86%).

International Multidisciplinary e –Journal. Author: N. Peetabas .( 06 - 11 ) DOMINANT FAMILY FABACEAE OF KANDHAMAL DISTRICT, ODISHA, INDIA N. Peetabas Department of Botany, Science College, Kukudakhandi ABSTRACT The family Fabaceae is well known for its protein contents and other valuable uses. A total of 652 plant species were collected from the forest pockets of Kandhamal district during the survey work conducted from 2007 to 2009. About 9% of the total collections including 56 plant species belonging to this family are enumerated here. Key words: Dominant, herbarium, species diversity, floristic composition INTRODUCTION: Kandhamal separated from Phulabani became an independent district on 2nd October 1992. The Kandhamal district located between 19034’to 20034’ north latitude and 83030’ to 84035’ east longitude in central part of Odisha. It is bounded by Boudha district north, Koraput district on south, Nayagarh and Ganjam in east and Kalahandi in west. The floristic account of this area has remained comparatively unknown. The luxuriant forest pockets have been used as hiding dwellings by the naxalites, maoists and other criminal elements of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The district could not be botanised perfectly by Saxena and Brahmam (1994-96) may be owing to the above reasons. A few of literatures (Mooney, 1950) are also available containing sporadic references. Attempts were also made by Mishra and Das, 1988; Hemadri and Rao, 1989-91; Aminuddin and Girach, 1991; Prusty, 2007; Prusty and Behera, 2007; Pattnaik et al., 2008 etc. but their works were mostly confined to ethnobotanical noting only.
