Hurricane Max Forms Off Mexico's Southwestern Coast: Forecasters 14 September 2017 Hurricane Max forms off Mexico's southwestern coast: forecasters 14 September 2017 "Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion," the hurricane center warned. Max was expected to bring dangerous storm surge that will likely cause "significant" coastal flooding, accompanied by "large and destructive waves." Guerrero state and parts of Oaxaca state were forecast to receive five to 10 inches (12.7 to 25.4 centimeters) of rain, with some areas receiving more than 20 inches. The rainfall could cause "life-threatening flash floods and mudslides." As of 7:00 am (1200 GMT), the Category One storm had top winds of 75 miles (121 kilometers) per hour and was moving east at six miles per hour, according to the Miami-based National Hurricane Center. Max was swirling in the eastern Pacific about 55 miles southwest of Acapulco and expected to make landfall Thursday afternoon. Authorities declared a hurricane warning for 300 miles of Mexico's coast stretching from Zihuatanejo to Punta Maldonado. Hurricane Max 2 Hurricane Max 13-15 SEPTEMBER 2017 SYNOPTIC HISTORY Max appears to have been initiated by the same tropical wave that spawned Atlantic Hurricane Jose. The wave moved westward at low latitudes to the south of Atlantic Hurricane Irma, crossed Central America and entered the east Pacific on 11 September. Vorticity associated with the wave soon became embedded within a broad low-level cyclonic gyre to the south of Mexico. On 13 September, a large area of deep convection associated with this system became more consolidated a couple of hundred n mi southwest of the coast of southern Mexico. By 1200 UTC that day, convective banding had become sufficiently well organized to designate the formation of a tropical depression that was centered about 130 n mi west-southwest of Acapulco, Mexico. The “best track” chart of the tropical cyclone’s path is given in Fig. 1, with the wind and pressure histories shown in Figs. 2 and 3, respectively. Los resultados de este análisis evidenciaron daños en el ambiente: caída de árboles, desbordamiento e inundaciones; en cuanto a lo económico, la población perdió bienes materiales, animales y afectaciones en sus casas; en cuanto a lo social, las personas sufrieron daños físicos y emocionales; hubo afectaciones en los servicios de agua y de electricidad, y, por ende, falta de alimentos.

    Tropical Cyclone Report Hurricane Max 18-22 September 2005 Richard D. Knabb National Hurricane Center 5 April 2006 Max was a short-lived tropical cyclone that absorbed Tropical Storm Lidia and later became a Category 1 hurricane (on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale). Max did not affect land. a. Synoptic History The system that led to the development of Max appears to have been a tropical wave that crossed the west coast of Africa on 4 September. The wave proceeded across the tropical Atlantic without development, passed through the Lesser Antilles on 10 September, and then traversed the Caribbean Sea. The southern portion of the wave crossed Central America on 13 September and entered the eastern Pacific basin. The area of disturbed weather associated with the wave became large but disorganized on 14 September to the south of Guatemala. While the disturbance remained large during the next few days as it proceeded westward a couple hundred miles off the Pacific coast of Mexico, convection did not consolidate until 16 September. That day the system received its first Dvorak classifications from the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB) and the Satellite Analysis Branch (SAB). Early on 18 September, the convective banding became more evident as the system approached Tropical Storm Lidia, which was nearly stationary about 725 n mi southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Unhindered by the relatively small circulation of Lidia, the larger disturbance approaching from the east gained organization, and it is estimated that it became a tropical depression by 1200 UTC 18 September about 500 n mi south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas.

    VELA MINISTRIES RELIEF PLAN FOR MEXICO SEPTEMBER 2017 BACKGROUND: Mexico has been going through crisis after crisis since the month of August of this year. First hurricane Franklin caused torrential rains on August 10 which led to underground rivers to overflow which caused flooding in many areas. Then on September 7 the strongest earthquake registered in the past 100 years hit the southern part of Mexico at 8.2 on the Richter scale. This affected the States of Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco affecting more than 279,575 people, 1,145 schools were damaged, and 120,000 homes were damaged. The next day hurricane Katia hit the coasts of the State of Veracruz with winds of up to 128km per hour, this caused damages in 122 municipalities, 53 of which were declared to be in a state of emergency, 70,000 people lost electricity, the Tecolutla river flooded, and 3 people were killed. On September 15 hurricane Max hit the coast of Acapulco affecting more than 3000 people and killing one person. A storm called Norma also hit the State of Baja California. Then on September 19 a 7.1 earthquake hit the state of Morelos affecting not only that State but also Puebla, Mexico City, and the States of Mexico and Guerrero. So far 305 people have died, in Mexico City alone 48 buildings collapsed, hundreds of homes are no longer safe to live in and at least 33,000 people have been affected. There are also many communities where damages have not yet been assessed. On September 23, another earthquake hit with the epicenter being in the State of Oaxaca registering at 6.4 on the Richter Scale.
