Reaching Out to Warrick County’s Educational Imagination

Founded and incorporated in 1992, the Warrick Public Education Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization to enhance education by supporting imaginative programs and projects. It is a non-profit broadly-based partnership in education established to encourage, promote and assist educational excellence in the Warrick County School Corporation. The Warrick Public Education Foundation has three major programs active in Warrick County. These innovative programs need support by corporate sponsors and individual donations. The more we can build our funds, the more programs we can sponsor in the future. The Warrick Public Education Foundation's three major programs are:

These grants provide funding for innovative and creative projects that cannot be funded through the available school budget. Grants are awarded each semester to teachers in the Warrick Co. School Corporation. Since the inception of the Education Grants in 1992, the WPEF has awarded over $300,000 in grants to Warrick County teachers.

Funds are provided to secondary school principals to be used in assisting students without the financial resources to pursue the possibility of further educational opportunities. This program provides funding for items such as SAT, ACT or GED test fees and college application fees.

This for-credit Summer Musical Program is the flagship program of the public education foundation. Engaging 100+ students each summer for 19 consecutive summers, this professional quality production provides a creative outlet for the talented students in the tri-state area. Since its inception in 1997, the Summer Musical Program has involved 900+ local students. The Summer Musical Program increases the publics’ awareness of the philanthropic work of the WPEF and provides a family friendly event that entertains and educates 3,000 area residents each summer.

MPW Industrial Services is the leading provider of integrated, technology-based industrial cleaning, facility management, water purification and container management services in North America.

MPW assists in enhancing operational efficiencies, improving reliability and minimizing costs. In-house engineers and fabrication technicians at our facility understand how important it is to have customized proprietary tooling and mobile operating systems, capable of accommodating unique industry requirements and demands. Our highly qualified and thoroughly trained personnel promptly respond to your needs, delivering services with the highest ethical standards and commitment to safety.

The conception of MPW in 1972 was a modest one. The early stages of MPW began when Monte Black used his personal pickup truck to clean the outside of buildings in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Monte’s knack for perfection and quality did not go unnoticed. His services caught the eye of AEP, one of the largest power generation companies in the Midwest, and quickly led to a relationship with the company that continues to thrive today.

Entering what was even then a highly competitive industry, he was convinced that hard work, innovation and a commitment to exceed customer expectations would enable him to succeed. Monte believed that if he “went the second mile” to meet customer needs, his infant company would grow. And grow it did. Water blasting, ultra-high pressure water blasting and cutting, industrial vacuuming, chemical cleaning, proprietary container cleaning and water purification services were added to his already robust list of services.

Only one large industrial cleaning company retains its original management  MPW. The same entrepreneurial spirit and customer-driven commitment that characterized MPW in 1972 continues to serve as its driving force today. Monte Black, now Chief Executive Officer, plays a very hands-on role in the operations of the company, interacting with customers and field personnel to ensure that MPW exceeds customer expectations.

Audubon Metals LLC is located in Henderson, Kentucky and is owned by an affiliate of Koch Enterprises Inc., headquartered in Evansville, Indiana. Audubon Metals LLC, is a unique facility that is the only heavy-media separator and secondary specification aluminum alloy producer under one roof in the United States. In our estimation, from the time that an automobile is first shredded, to the time a new aluminum casting is shipped, an average of over 42 days have elapsed. Audubon Metals LLC purchases as it's main feed stock, "automotive shredder residue" from automotive shredders throughout North America for processing through its heavy media separation system. In our system, automobile shredder residue (zorba) is processed, dried, melted, alloyed to customer specification, and delivered to die casters throughout the Midwest in just a matter of days. Audubon Metals LLC began operations in December 1996 with a single reverbatory furnace. In 1998, a second furnace was added to double our capacity. A third furnace was added in 2003 to assure consistent production capabilities to our customers. With the contributions of our raw material and end-use market partners and an efficient internal operational process, Audubon Metals LLC has accelerated the recycling process of automobile shredder residue into new secondary aluminum alloy castings. This is the uniqueness of Audubon Metals LLC. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is the basic foundation of our business. Audubon Metals LLC believes that our environmental goals and objectives can be achieved through cooperation and communication with our team members, vendors, suppliers, customers and the community. Audubon Metals LLC is committed to environmentally sound practices in the reclamation of non-ferrous metals and the production of secondary aluminum alloys.

No doubt about it, Shrek is the ugliest guy in town. Everywhere he goes, people and animals flee. If his hideous appearance does not immediately fell them, the smoke belching from his ears and his "putrid blue flame" sends even the mighty - including "a whopper of a dragon" - packing. Yet Shrek is inordinately proud of his green knobby head and loathsome figure, and he roams the countryside having the kind of fun that only tormenting the vulnerable can provide. Hearing a witch prophesy that he will marry a princess who is even uglier than he is, Shrek is intrigued, and he sets out to find this repulsive bride. When they finally meet, the two break into heartfelt declarations of mutual admiration. ("Your horny warts, your rosy wens, / Like slimy bogs and fusty fens, / Thrill me.") Of course, they "got hitched as soon as possible." Steig's epigrammatic genius is given full rein in this engrossing and satisfying tale. William Steig (1907-2003) was a cartoonist, illustrator and author of award-winning books for children, including Shrek!, on which the DreamWorks movies are based. Steig was born in New York City. Every member of his family was involved in the arts, and so it was no surprise when he decided to become an artist. He attended City College and the National Academy of Design. In 1930, Steig's work began appearing in The New Yorker, where his drawings have been a popular fixture ever since. He published his first children's book, Roland the Minstrel Pig, in 1968. In 1970, Steig received the Caldecott Medal for Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. His books for children also include Dominic; The Real Thief; The Amazing Bone, a Caldecott Honor Book; Amos & Boris, a National Book Award finalist; and Abel's Island and Doctor De Soto, both Newbery Honor Books. Steig's books have also received the Christopher Award, the Irma Simonton Black Award, the William Allen White Children's Book Award, and the American Book Award. His European awards include the Premio di Letteratura per l'infanzia (Italy), the Silver Pencil Award (the Netherlands), and the Prix de la Fondation de France. On the basis of his entire body of work, Steig was selected as the 1982 U.S. candidate for the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for Illustration and subsequently as the 1988 U.S. candidate for Writing. Stieg also published thirteen collections of drawings for adults, beginning with About People in 1939, and including The Lonely Ones, Male/Female, The Agony in the Kindergarten, and Our Miserable Life. He died in Boston at the age of 95.

In 1997 I received a phone call from Suzanne Godeke asking me if I would like to be a part of a new summer musical program sponsored by the WPEF the coming summer. I immediately jumped on board. Little did I know that my decision would take me to some powerful high points in my career as a music educator. Thank you Suzanne for that call, I loved our time together. As the program transitioned, Eric Antey became the director. Eric brought along with him his lovely wife Amanda, then Maggie, then Stella, then Parker. What a joy it has been to watch this young director blossom into a beautiful family. I enjoyed Eric's high standards and expectations. Thank you Eric for including me in your summer productions and giving me opportunities that I would never have had otherwise. As a part of this summer musical program my life has been greatly enriched by also working with Alan Jobe, Harry Steinsberger, Ben Oakes, Steve Devillez, Jeff and Tracey Cozart, Jeff Thornton, Chris Tyner and many others. The most important of all of these are the hundreds of students that I have had the privilege of working with through the years. You have given me memories and moments that cannot be expressed in words but can only be felt in my heart. In May I officially retired from EVSC after forty-one years of teaching. This will also be my last show with the Warrick Summer Musical. The thoughts that keep coming to my mind are where have the years gone and how fortunate I have been to spend my life doing something that I love. Though I will miss this work immensely I know that the time for me to move on is here. Sincerely, Ben Boyer

After the close of the curtain from our Sunday performance last year of Children of Eden, the cast and crew shared moments together backstage like no other show we have ever been a part of. Through all the tears, the hugs, and the laughter from the students and the staff, we were reminded why we "give up" our summer to be a part of this program. We often say that the summer musical program is a family. Though many people might find this statement cliché, we believe wholeheartedly that it is true. The reason that we do not feel as though we "give up" our summers by participating is that those of us that the program really means something to cannot imagine our summers and our lives without it. Our last two summers with Parade and Children of Eden have taken the company and our audiences on an emotional journey that we will not soon forget. This year, we hope to give our company and our audiences a far different, yet equally fulfilling experience as we present the musical Shrek, based on the popular animated movie. On its surface, the story of Shrek can appear rather thin and the message rather trivial. However, when you stop and think about it, the story of Shrek sends a very valuable message to audiences of all ages about what happens when we treat people wrongly because they look different, act different, or come from somewhere else. This modern musical is filled with memorable and entertaining characters, offers tremendous music and orchestration, and takes audiences on a fantastic journey along with many of the old fairy tale characters that we have grown up with. Our company has enjoyed a tremendous summer working on this show and learning so much about ourselves and those around us. Finally, I would like to personally thank Ben Boyer for the time, energy, and expertise he has brought to the summer musical for many years. Not only has he been a tremendous vocal director, he has also been an incredible mentor for me and now a close friend. The Warrick Summer Musical family will not be the same without Mr. Boyer around, but we wish him and Suzie all the happiness in the world as they begin the new retirement phase of life. In the words of Shrek, “It’s a big, bright beautiful world with happiness all around.” We thank you for filling our lives with so much happiness and we hope that you can enjoy that big, bright beautiful world that waits for you. - Eric Antey
