Morant's Curve Cowl V1.0 Morant’s Curve Cowl v1.0 | Vikki Perkins Morant’s Curve Cowl Morant’s Curve is a bend in the Canadian Pacific Railway track just past Lake Louise, Alberta. This section of track is named for Order of Canada recipient Nicholas Morant, a staff photographer for the CPR during the early 20th century. This location in the Canadian Rockies was Morant’s favourite place to capture images of CP Rail’s locomotives passing next to this bend in the Bow River, with the beautiful Canadian Rockies forming an impressive backdrop. The curve of the rail and river are the inspiration for this lace and twisted rib stitch cowl. With working yarn, create a slip knot and place it on the crochet hook. 2. Hold the hook in your right hand and the knitting needle in your left hand. 3. Bring the yarn behind the needle and over the hook. 4. Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook. 1 st cast on. 5. Repeat steps 3-4 until you are one st less than required number of sts to cast on. 6. Transfer the final loop from the hook to the needle to create the final cast on st. Pull working end of yarn to tighten loop around needle. 7. Cast on is complete. Begin knitting the pattern as per directions. Elastic Bind-off Work the sts as if to knit. 1. K2 2. Slip the 2 stitches purl-wise back to LH needle 3. K2togtbl 4. Work the next stitch. 5. Repeat steps 2-4 until all sts are bound off and 1 st remains on the right needle. When casting on for knitting in the round it is recommended to cast on 1 extra stitch and join it together at the end of the first round as it helps to reduce the gap that can occur. When knitting in the round, it is recommended that the gauge swatch be made in the round, since knitters may achieve a different gauge from flat knitting (due to no purl rounds). Instructions: CO 130 stitches using Crochet method. Join to knit in the round, being careful not to twist stitches around the needle. Place marker for beg/end of rounds. Round 1: K5, p5. Continue around. Round 2 to 6: Repeat Round 1. Next Round: Work Row 1 of Lace Motif (repeating the pattern 10 times around) from chart or written directions. Place stitch marker after each repeat. Continue with Lace Motif until 2 full repeats (28 rounds) of the pattern are completed. Next Round: Work Row 1 of Lace Motif. Continue with Lace Motif to Row 7 (½ of a full repeat or 7 rounds) Page 3 of 5 Morant’s Curve Cowl v1.0 | Vikki Perkins Round 42: K5, p5. Continue around. Round 43 to 47: Repeat Round 42.
