  • Reliving the Music in the Journeys of Nuestra Señora De La Paz Y Buen Viaje: Antipolo Baroque to Twentieth-Century Manila Ma
Reliving the Music in the Journeys of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje: Antipolo Baroque to Twentieth-century Manila Ma. Patricia Brillantes-Silvestre Eres mi Madre, plácida Maria; Tú mi vida serás, mi fortaleza; Tú en este fiero mar serás mi guia. -Jose Rizal A la Virgen María, 1880 The Philippine rites of Mary are many and varied, each with its own unique character and homegrown tradition. These range from solemn novena to ecstatic procession, quaint poem-and-flower offering to lilting song and dance, arduous pilgrimage to carefree fiesta. These may take place on land or river, country shrine or city basilica, small community inroad or wide, expansive boulevard. But all are marked by a massive outpouring of affection and tenderness. The cult of Mary in the Philippines has grown from simple folk expression in early times to an imposing display of organized faith in the colonial era, backed by the Church itself and the cabildo or city government (Summers 1998 204), and in more recent times, propped up by a network of wealthy patrons, schools, commercial establishments, and an assortment of civic, artistic and religious organizations. For a people who call themselves in a Marian hymn, “un pueblo amante de María” (a people who love Mary), and who address Mary as “Mama” in such familial terms, these rites represent distinct personal relationships with the Mother of God, hence the variety of expression. This paper focuses on Our Lady of Antipolo, one of the most popular and historic shrines in the country. Our Lady of Antipolo Antipolo is a small town southeast of Manila, situated on a foothill of the Sierra Madre mountain range in Luzon.

  • Philippines-India Relations Was One of the Two Most Focal Bilateral Discussions Made
India–Philippines relations India–Philippines relations India–Philippines relations refers to the foreign relations between the Republic of India and the Republic of the Philippines. Diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines was established in 1949. India maintains an embassy in Manila, whilst the Philippines maintains one in New Delhi. A Treaty of Friendship was signed between the Philippines and India on 11 July 1952. India Philippines Contents History Early history Colonial era Post World War II era 21st Century relations Joint Commission on Bilateral Co-operation Cultural relations Military relations Trade Relations Indian Community in the Philippines History Early history Indian elements in Philippine culture point to early relations between the two societies. However, some works posit that the influx of Indian cultural elements into the Philippines is understood only in terms of the developments in the intervening regions between these two areas, the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian Archipelago, where there was an intensified process of Indian influences from the 2nd through the late 14th centuries CE. Through the Srivijaya and Majapahit empires, Indian influences would have reached the Philippines from the 10th through the early 14th centuries, based on the events in these two regions, and through direct migration from the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines. Artifacts of Indian orientation have been found in a lot of islands in the Philippines. The golden image of the female Bodhisattva which was found in Agusan, was related to the development of Buddhism in Southeast Asia dating back to the late 13th and 14th centuries. The introduction of Sanskrit words and literature may be dated to the 10th and 12th centuries.

  • In Cainta, Rizal
Proceedings of the 24th Annual Conference of the Transportation Science Society of the Philippines Assessment of Mobility of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Cainta, Rizal Justine Brylle PAJARIN a, Conrad Matthew SORIANO b Jose Regin REGIDOR c a,b,c Institute of Civil Engineering, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines a E-mail: [email protected] b E-mail: [email protected] c E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: This study aims to address the problems on the mobility of PWDs. Set in Cainta as the location, it involves both qualitative (survey questionnaires for PWD and non-PWD, as respondents) and quantitative assessment (pedestrian facilities and public transportation vehicles). The researchers determined from these methods that the respondents gave more importance to safety than the other factors affecting mobility. Common problems encountered in using transportation vehicles and facilities were also enumerated. Results show that the transportation facilities and vehicles are poorly designed for PWDs. PWDs have limited choices on their use of transportation vehicles and facilities and have experienced difficulties in boarding and alighting vehicles. There are many obstructions on transportation facilities, especially on sidewalks, that impede seamlessness of their travel from one point to another. The researchers gave recommendations on the designs and layouts of transportation vehicles and facilities in order to improve mobility of PWDs in the municipality. Keywords: Mobility, PWDs, Transportation Facilities, Transportation Vehicles, Urban Setting 1. INTRODUCTION In a country with rapidly increasing population like the Philippines, transportation plays a major role in the development of the society. Whenever transport systems are designed, persons with disabilities (PWDs) are often neglected.
