There are several shops in the village which include a newsagent/general store butcher, post office /village store, café, furniture upholsterer , garage and a fancy dress/costume shop as well as The Pepperpot restaurant which has gained a formidable reputation for its excellent standard of cuisine and service and is in easy walking distance. The beach is situated approximately ¼ mile away and there are often fossils discovered having been exposed from the cliffs and the West Runton mammoth was discovered here in 1995. Description The Bungalow is a charming and unique property built in 1975 by the current owner’s husband and is therefore the first time it has come to the market. The property has been extended and altered since then with great attention to detail. The owner is a cookery demonstrator and designed the kitchen with Kay Corbett bespoke handmade English Elm cupboards and granite worktops, central island sink, a Vez elay 220cm wide Lacanche range cooker, breakfast area and separate walk-in pantry. The focal point of the property is a large light filled sitting room with an open fireplace and double doors leading into the conservatory/dining room which links the two ends of the property, with the benefit of underfloor heating and double doors opening to the garden. The master bedroom can be accessed from the conservatory. T here is a separate large Lefroy Brooks bathroom with Thomas Crapper WC and separate Huppe shower room plus 2 further bedrooms, one currently used as a study. All windows and doors were built by North Norfolk Joinery and the con servatory, orangery and garage were made and designed by Keith Reardon to the current owner’s specification, with bespoke hardwood and Pilkington glass treated to filter UV rays. All doorways were made to an extra wide specification.     WEST RUNTON & BEESTON REGIS HEATH Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey For The National Trust Brian Cushion Archaeological & Cartographical Surveyor June 2012 West Runton & Beeston Regis Heath Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey CONTENTS 1 Introduction 2 Summary 3 Results, with map 4 Conclusions 5 Bibliography 6 Acknowledgements 7 Appendices 2 1 Introduction The survey was commissioned in preparation for a Higher Level Stewardship proposal, and was undertaken in accordance with established guidelines of the Historic Environment Countryside Adviser of Norfolk Landscape Archaeology. The survey covers an area of 87 hectares of woodland and heath, including a recently acquired area of woodland which projected from the west into the earlier property extent. The majority of the managed woodland is on the flatter ground on the top of the Cromer Ridge, the heath and more varied woodland is on the sharply serrated north-facing slopes and intervening spurs of the ridge. The fieldwork method was to perambulate the area in as systematic way as topography and vegetation allows, ideally with c.50m transects, record features of note on a map provided, and give a brief analytical description. Hand-held GPS equipment would assist in positioning of the features. Early published maps were consulted, and the existing archaeological records were provided by Norfolk Landscape Archaeology. (See Appendices A & B). A National Trust Archaeological Report for the earlier area had been compiled by Dr Peter Wade-Martins, the then County Archaeologist in 1986 & 1992. Appropriate references are in the text. The area comprises parts of three parishes, West Runton, Beeston Regis and Aylmerton, within the former is the location of The Roman Camp, a well known local viewpoint and beauty spot, unfortunately misnamed.

Detailed examination of their petrology has enabled them to be provenanced to northern Britain and southern Norway. Their clustered occurrence in coastal sediments in Norfolk is believed to be the product of ice-rafting from glacier incursions into the North Sea from eastern Scotland and southern Norway, and their subsequent grounding and melting within coastal areas of what is now north Norfolk. The precise timing of these restricted glaciations is difficult to determine. However, the relationship of the erratics to the biostratigraphic record and the first major expansion of ice into the North Sea suggest these events occurred during at least one glaciation between the late Early Pleistocene and early Middle Pleistocene (c. 1.1−0.6 Ma). In contrast to the late Middle (Anglian) and Late Pleistocene (Last Glacial Maximum) glaciations, where the North Sea was largely devoid of extensive marine conditions, the presence of far-travelled ice-rafted materials implies that earlier cold stage sea-levels were considerably higher.
