Next, head to Praça dos Restauradores a large tree and café lined square with a soaring obelisk that commemorates the country’s liberation from Spain in 1640. As you stroll around the square on the west side you pass the Glória Funicular which goes up the hill towards Bairro Alto. Stroll around the square heading towards nearby Rua das Portas da Santo Antão, a pedestrianised street filled with excellent restaurants. Stop at Casa do Alentejo, a spectacularly restored Moorish palace, next door there is a café showcasing products from the Alentejo region, enjoy a coffee and taste some of the regional delicacies.
