There is no doubt that Egypt’s hosting of this major sporting event has im- portant implications for Egypt, its people and the world. This is the largest global sporting event ever held anywhere in the world since the covid-19 pandemic, a year ago. The organization of this competi- tion in such circumstances reflects the extent of Egyptian capabilities in all areas of health, logistics, security and sports under these exceptional cir- cumstances. Undoubtedly, the international consensus to convene the championship at this time, despite all the current realities around the world, confirms confi- dence in Egypt’s success in dealing with the pandemic at all levels, and in the ability of the State, Egyptian people and the youth of the world participating in the championship, to come up with the 2021 edition in the best form, to the enjoyment of hundreds of millions of handball fans at a time when all the peoples of the world need moments of hope, pleasure and fair competi- tion after a very difficult year for everyone.

On behalf of the Serbian Handball Federation and in his function as RSS President, Božidar Djurković also greeted his colleagues with words of welcome and introduced the Secretary of State for Sport for the Republic of Serbia, Mr Darko Stanić (a former international handball goalkeeper and EHF EURO 2012 Silver Medallist) who expressed his pleasure at having the EHF Executive Committee in Belgrade, and highlighted the good cooperation between the European Handball Federation and the Serbian Handball Federation. Minister Stanić wished the group a good meeting and pleasant stay in Belgrade. In response, President Wiederer underlined that is was very positive to see former top players reach high positions after the professional playing career is over; he also mentioned that the EHF feels welcomed in Serbia, highlighting the ongoing good cooperation and the top events on various levels hosted in the Republic and by the Serbian Handball Federation.

Onesta (France) and Trefilow (Russia) led their teams 2 Interview to winning the gold medal at the Men’s and Women’s World Championships in 2009. When thinking of coaches who have been doing an excellent job over many years, these two coaches must be kept in mind. 3 Draw for SWE 2011 A portrait of the IHF awardees: 4 Draw results of WYWCH Claude Onesta 5 Greenland at WJWCH At the end of January 2010, Claude Onesta made history: For the first time in international handball 6 Draw for YOG history, one and the same team succeeded in being World Champion, European Champion and 7 Passing of Marius Mouthe Olympic Champion at the same time. The French team coached by Onesta achieved this historic 8 Calendar of events triple success after having become World Champion in Croatia in 2009 and Olympic Champion in Beijing in 2008. Onesta aged 53 has been coaching the French men’s team since 2001. His difficult task was to fill Daniel Constantini’s shoes who had led the French team to winning the World Championship in 1995 and 2001. Onesta inherited an intact team and additionally integrated young players such as Karabatic or Abalo into the team. His first achievements were two World Championship bronze medals and the first European Championship title in 2006.

It is one of the Continental Federations that comprise the International Handball Federation (IHF). It is an independent legal entity. Its name and symbol (logo) may be registered. The IHF statutes, regulations and resolutions shall be binding for the EHF and all its members. 1.2 The EHF aims at the continued development and promotion of handball in Europe and is not profit-oriented. In order to accomplish the said purpose, the EHF may operate educational facilities and institutionalize education and training programmes. The federation formed by European National Federations serves the exchange of interests and experience, the organisation of International handball competitions as well as the representation of European interests in the International Handball Federation. Official International handball, minihandball and beachhandball competitions held in Europe and entered by members of National Federations shall be subject to the authority of the EHF. Exceptions therefrom shall be Olympic Games, World Championships and World Cup as well as other recognized competitions. 1.3 The EHF encourages friendship and mutual understanding among members, does not discriminate on the basis of politics, race or religion, and rejects any illegitimate practices in sports. Contravention of these principles, be it through the rejection of referees, non- appearance at a match, failure to grant entry visas to players, managers, referees, EHF representatives, EHF functionaries and sports journalists, raising performance levels through the administration of forbidden substances such as doping, shall be subject to sanctions pursuant to IHF regulations.
