The water is injected via the pipe in the centre of the heating coils and a fan inside the coils blows the water through the coils and comes out as steam. The operating temperature of this device is 350F. The white material you see on the coils is a powder coating that is easily removed with a wet cloth. No more chemicals are required to clean the convection oven. However, we have noticed even greater results in the school kitchen, which was previously using a traditional water softening system. But all in all, we can confirm the effectiveness of the Vulcan treatment, which means less work for the maintenance staff. The Vulcan unit installed on the entire building system has also been extremely effective. No more rusty water after weekends and Christmas break. The next Vulcan will be installed on the other school buildings, which are around 20 – 25 years old. The last Vulcan unit is installed on the main cooling tower – we have had nothing but positive news in regards to this installation. We will be seeing more orders coming from this customer very soon. Finnish customers are already rather familiar with the Visitor operations because Fazer has been a popular destination for school groups, but now Fazer aims to attract more foreign Visitors as well. One of the largest foreign visitor groups for Fazer haVe traditionally been Russian traVel- lers. In 2014 the number of Russian Visitors to Finland declined sharply due to political and economic reasons, but lately, tourism has started to recover and Fazer is keen to capitalise on this change.

    125 years of taste sensations − Fazer's history in short The history of the Fazer family, company and products is all one story. The foundation was laid by Karl Fazer, the strong and brave founder of the company. The story of the family company started in 1891, when Karl Fazer opened his French-Russian café in Helsinki at Kluuvikatu 3. The bold and unprejudiced Karl Fazer (1866-1932) Karl Fazer was the youngest of the four sons of Dorothea and Eduard Fazer, who had moved to Finland from Switzerland. During his years of boyhood, Karl liked most of all to wander in the woods, and he was supposed to become a forester. His father was very much annoyed when his son after school chose to become a confectioner: the father felt that was no way to create any remarkable business at all. He needed to get professional training abroad. The international and sophisticated Saint Petersburg was the best place to study for our future confectioner. Karl Fazer was accepted as apprentice at the recognised G. Berrin patisserie, and was finally given a good report, the journeyman's letter. As a professional, he worked also in other famous companies in Saint Petersburg, and later in Berlin and Paris, too. Finally, at the age of 25, the fully-trained master confectioner was prepared to show his skills in his home town Helsinki. In June 1891, the young entrepreneur Karl Fazer had his first newspaper advertisement published: ‘Karl Fazer, the French-Russian Confectionery will accept orders for Confection, Ice cream and Cakes, Scones and Pyramids as well as Ball and Wedding Buffets.

This essay discusses three aspects related to the likeness between Helsinki and St Pe- tersburg. Firstly, the centre of early 19th-century Helsinki became to look like miniature St Peters- burg because its architect C.L. Engel admired the neoclassical architecture in St Petersburg. Se- condly, Helsinki (Helsingfors in Swedish) suited the role Bely gave it in ‘Petersburg’ novel (1916) as it had the name familiar to his readers, and in 1905 the name was more modern that St. Peters- burg. Thirdly, Cold War films with Helsinki as Petrograd/Leningrad and Moscow show that the line between the factual and fictional may get lost. What did imperial St Petersburg stand for? For its first two centuries, for many men and women within a long radius it indicated opportunities. However, this began to change towards the end of the 19th century when its role was challenged by Moscow. By the time Andrei Bely wrote his ‘Petersburg’ (1913), the city itself had become a symbol of petrified old order for him, or that was how I understood it when I read ‘Petersburg’ for the first time.

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 ABSTRACT THE FIFTIES IN FINLAND Finnish society in the 1950s from the perspective of the cultural and industrial-banking elites The main topic of the dissertation is the 1950s in Finland, analysed from the perspective of the cultural and industrial-banking elites. During the first post-war decade, Finland witnessed an immense political reorientation in terms of both foreign and domestic politics occurring as a result of the war. Such circumstances were a salient influence on the position and role of the cultural and industrial-banking ehte who, like the rest of the Finnish society, were required to adjust to the post-war circumstances. The process of their adaptability is of particular significance for this study.
