We kicked off in April with Sioux Cub Pack enjoying a swashbuckling Sleepover with a Pirate theme. This was just the first of many nights away from home for our sections, later in the spring Crusoe Scout Troop enjoyed a weekend camp at Great Yews near Salisbury, in late July Sioux Cub Pack had a week long Summer Camp at Linkenholt and in August Mohican Cub Pack had a weekend Summer Camp at our own Scout HQ. In June our Beaver Colonies and Cub Packs had a fantastic trip to Longleat, along with 100’s of Beaver & Cub Scouts from Scout Groups across Hampshire. After a well earned summer break our sections were back in the Autumn for another fun-filled term of Scouting. We had a great turnout of walkers walking for the group at the Rotary Test Way Walk. Our supporters raised over £600 for the group at this event. We held our annual Fireworks evening in early November with members and parents from all sections and from the Explorer Unit enjoying a spectacular Fireworks display followed by Hot Dogs and Hot Chocolate. This term was rounded off by the District Carol Service with a great turnout from the group. In the new year work was started on a major landscaping project to clear many years of overgrown vegetation and create an environment designed to support our Scouting programme. 100’s of hours of work was completed by members and supporters of the group to transform our grounds. One of the highlights of this is the planting of the Willow Avenue which when fully formed will give us a spectacular archway leading from the main part of the field to the Campfire Circle. At Easter we said farewell to Akela and Shere Khan from Mohican Cub Pack. Together Steve Woodrow (Akela) and Margaret Cantello (Shere Khan) had supported Scouting and the Group for over 50 years. We thank them and their families for their help and friendship for all of that time. They will continue to support us in the future in other roles as they continue to be part of the Group family. Finally I would like to thank the Scouters, the members of the Group Executive, Parents and Supporters for the time that they give throughout the year to enable 10th Romsey Scout Group to continue to provide an exciting Scouting programme across all of our sections. • Diocesan Prayer Cycle 1St July – 30Th September
Diocesan Prayer Cycle 1st July – 30th September I am often challenged when I read the opening words of Paul’s letters in the New Testament, where he reminds his readers that they are constantly in his prayers. Think about the impact for the Philippian Christians as they read these words: ‘I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.’ Philippians 1: 3-5 Many of you will be able tell stories of the impact of having others pray for you. Some of you are prayed for every day by friends or family members. Others have been held close to God through times of challenge when your own prayers have felt inadequate or even impossible. And most of us can recount the importance of others’ prayers when we have been ill or facing difficult choices. What a joy to pray for one another. So why I am challenged by the words of Paul? Why do I find it difficult to pray when that is the thing I so desperately desire? Perhaps I forget that prayer is a joy and think of it as a responsibility that weighs heavily. Or maybe I just don’t carve out the time to spend in God’s presence. The Prayer Course is a great resource to encourage us to pray more regularly and it contains a simple reminder of how we can approach prayer: - Keep it simple - Keep it real - Keep it up Prayer is a conversation with God and we can speak with him outdoors in nature, as we go about our daily work, as we gaze out of the window, with words or in silence.

  • NOTES. Cranbury Park. Bank S.W. of the House and Close to It. Can Be
304 HAMPSHIRE FIELD CLUB: NOTES. By O. G. S. CRAWFORD, F.S.A. Cranbury Park. Bank S.W. of the house and close to it. Can be traced round the W. and N. W. edge of the Hill. Appears to have been tampered with at various times. There was a dwelling here, I think, in mediaeval times, when some damage may have been done ; and there has also been extensive landscape gardening in subsequent (18th or 19th century) times. But the site is the highest in the district : the park contains Celtic lynchets and a ditch, now under plough again : and the name (-bury.) suggests a pre-Conquest, and therefore probably pre-Roman earthwork. Hickley Farm. There are the remains of the south side of a fine hill-fort in the wood W. of the farm, but most of it has been destroyed by gravel- digging. Breach Farm, Bishopstoke. On 18th May, 1936, I observed a belt of buttercups, from the train, cutting across a bend of the Itchen between Breach Farm and Allbrook. I had previously observed a slight depression here, as of a filled-up ditch. Air photographs confirm. this. Last winter I walked over the ground, now arable, and found that the depression was.as I noted, and extends from the alluvium on the N. round to that on the W. I picked up a nice " Thames pick " of flint in the field. I have little doubt that this was a promontory fort. PAPERS AND PROCEEDINGS 305 A CAMP NEAR NURSLING. Mr. O. G. S. Crawford, F.S.A., zorites from Hope Villa, Nursling, near Southampton, under date September 10th, 1942, as-follows : "T7ESTERDAY morning (September 9th, 1942) I found JL another ' camp-' within less than a mile of this house, where I have lived for almost 22 years ! It is in the modern parish of Rownhams, between Lord's Hill and Aldermoor, in a copse adjoining the south end of Nursling plantation, which copse is bounded on the east by a road leading to Lord's Hill and Rown hams, and on the south by the road from Brown Hill to Aldermoor Bridge.
