By MARK SISTI Posted Dec 15, 2016 at 1:12 PM Everyone loves holiday jams. All kinds: blackberry, currant, raspberry. Or, for the less traditional among us, rock and roll. Those non-traditional folks may wish to head to the Snubbing Post on Route 46 in Rome on Saturday for Tylerland Studio’s 10th annual Christmas Jam. As mentioned in an earlier column, Tylerland Studios, owned and operated by Patty and David Tyler, prides itself on being more than a collection of high-end gear churning out commercial products. With that in mind, about 10 years ago Dave and Patty began considering ways to share their artistic vision – and those of their artists – with the general public in a live forum. Thus was born the Tylerland Annual Christmas Jam. “The musicians who recorded at Tylerland were in many different local bands and even some national acts,” notes David, “so, we decided an all-star jam would be appropriate. This is where each could bring their own band and we could get up for the all-star jam at the end.” After considering their alternatives, they entered discussions with the musician- friendly Snubbing Post, and ultimately decided to hold a jam during the Christmas and New Year’s season, a time when many of the studio’s out-of-town musician friends would be back in Central New York, and a time when many Central New Yorkers come home for the holidays. It was also decided that each jam would have a theme, or feature a particular artist who had recorded at the studio. Assorted years have found the jam celebrating the music of the Black Sheep, Yesterday’s Child, The Heartbeat Duo, Mike Lombardo Trio and Cannonball Run. Other Christmas jams have had as their thematic subjects a tribute to hippies, pets, the Winter Solstice, and the end of the world according to the Mayan calendar (spoiler alert: the world didn’t end). This year will be a little different, as each band/artist will be playing something off one of the seminal rock albums, the Beatles’ “Revolver.” This year’s lineup includes: • Suns of the Empire, who are completing an album for Henry Paul’s label in Nashville, with Henry Paul (Outlaws, Blackhawk, The Henry Paul Band) as the producer. • Baddogg, a well-known and popular local classic rock band. • Jesse Slokum, a busy touring musician who has recorded two albums at Tylerland, performed at the original Woodstock concert and has played with Richie Havens and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. • The Tyler band, a band made up of Tylerland studio regulars. Also joining in the fun and playing in the closing jam will be Andrea Dubonnet, singer- songwriter Steve Zacoroli, Tom Baker playing the Sitar, vocalist Chad Plantz and guitarist Michael Bell Showtime is at 9 p.m. There will be a $5 cover. .
