More Than Just A Diet: An Inquiry Into Veganism Abstract BACKGROUND: The vegan diet has gained momentum in recent years, with more people transitioning to the diet, whether for health or more ethically based reasons. The vegan diet, often characterized as very restrictive, is associated with health benefits but aisesr concerns. Controversy regarding the diet exists within the public sphere, with those actively supporting and advocating for it, and others questioning its purpose and proposed benefits, even disparaging its existence, perhaps because of a lack of knowledge about the diet. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to provide a fuller picture of the vegan diet, encompassing both the nutrition and health of the vegan diet as well as related ethical beliefs by studying scientific and popular literature in tandem. Furthermore, the study aimed to provide an insider’s perspective of the vegan diet as a means of combating stereotypes and making the diet more relatable/understandable to those who are not vegan.     Vegan Heaven By Adrienne Perron London Travel Writing J-term ‘19 I was not paying attention to the twinkling lights of Tower Bridge as I powered down its walking path, GPS in hand. As tourists meandered slowly to take in a bird’s eye view sight of the Thames and admire the City of London lit up at night, I rushed past them with fervor in my step and a grumble in my stomach. I was hungry, and had only one thing on my mind. Vegan. Baked. Goods. As much as my trip to London has been about city landmarks and new experiences, it has also been largely about food. Vegan food, specifically, meaning food that is not made with meat, fish, dairy, or egg. As a vegan, I sometimes feel as though I fall into cycles of eating certain foods over and over again at home because it is easier and more mindless than trying to cook new things. My trip to London has given me an excuse to treat myself and spend money on new and semi-foreign vegan food. London has over 155 vegan restaurants and is also seen as one of the most vegetarian-friendly cities in the world with its first vegetarian society having been established in 1849. Great fact! Consequently, London has been like my Mecca. I chose to go vegan in March of 2017 when I met someone who had been vegan for years. My mind was opened to the idea of using veganism to improve my relationship with food, help me to lead a more compassionate and kill-free lifestyle, and also reduce my environmental impacts.

I use it every - well maybe 3 times a year. It’s good but every time I pull it out I can’t remember how the gasket works, and which side the valve should be on and what buttons to press… Not that I really have to remember, I keep the instructions in the pot… I know I just need to practice using it more often, but right now I’m practicing NOT using it.
