Unbeknownst to them, their biggest foe will not meet them on the battlefield and it will not only threaten their hard made plan but also out the future of Egypt hanging by the thinnest of threads which could snap at any moment should any mistake occur. This book is the third book in Wilbur Smith's ancient Egyptian series although, chronologically, it is a direct follow-up to the first book, "River God" which ranks among my all time favorite historical novels. The mission of Prince Nefer,. Well worth the money and reading time! Refresh and try again. It reads easily like a quick novel despite it's length and you have that same desire that all good novels inspire I will say that while I don't think it was nearly as good as River God, it's still a very good story, and well worth the time reading it. The book is over a couple of hundred pages, but I got through it quickly as there is a plot behind every desert dune and it is very diffcult to put down. Smith is expert at setting the scene and Warlock holds the reader while trying hard to exploit the presumed familiarity of the reader with Taita. Smith refers to the Hyksos introducing horses and chariots and improved weapons to Egypt during their occupation of the region, and he quickly describes a shield wall as a form of battle, when opposing forces link their shields together and try to wear through the defenses of the other side. Now an Egyptologist has chanced upon a hidden message prepared by the then slave Taita, which lead to the crypt. There, his flaws glared but you'd roll your eyes and keep on loving him. Although this is written well, I'm just glad I didn't live in such a time and place where my life could be ended in a number of cruel ways. Of course, that may just be the voice of the narrator, who is determined to tell his story his way. As far as I'm concerned, this was a well-written thought out book, couldn't have been better. There is a lot in this book, where any reader can get entirely lost, whether it be in the love between prince Nefer and his Mintaka, or the anxious deception concocted by Naja, or the great battles fronted by Nefer and controlled by Taita. Had this one been the first of a series or a stand-alone novel it might well have been held to the same kind of reverence. I would strongly advise people to read this serial now in reverse order so that you can still enjoy this book without comparing this with the first or second book. But he also enjoyed the work of the British poet and novelist, Rudyard Kipling, and many nineteenth century travel writers. After he left his boarding school, which was called Michaelhouse, Wilbur studied at Rhodes University. When he finished his studies, the young man wanted to become a journalist. But his father did not think that this was a good idea. So, to please his father, Wilbur became an accountant. Wilbur got a job as a tax accountant with the government Revenue Service. His job was to find out how much money people owed to the government. But he was bored and unhappy in this job. Wilbur began to write fiction. He wanted to escape from his boring life as an accountant. And his own imagination gave him the chance to make that escape. He wrote an adventure story that was set in Africa. It had interesting characters and an exciting plot. The novel, which Pan Macmillan was called When the Lion Feeds, was published ilbur Addison Smith was born on 9th in 1964. It was an immediate success, and soon a WJanuary 1933, in the central African country movie company wanted to make a film of it. which is now called Zambia. At that time, the Wilbur had found the work he wanted to do. And country was called Northern Rhodesia and it was although his father didn’t understand his governed by Britain.     Wilbur Smith BIOGRAPHY & BIBLIOGRAPHY was born of British stock on January 9, 1933 in Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia, in Central Africa. As an infant of eighteen months I was struck down by cerebral malaria, delirious for ten days. Despite the primitive medical facilities available in Africa in those days, their prognosis proved correct; I survived and am now only mildly crazy. Armed with our slingshots and accompanied by a pack of mongrels we ranged at large through the bush, hunting and trapping birds and small mammals. These we scorched over a cooking fire and devoured with immense gusto. I returned home as late in the evening as I dared with my bare legs scratched and bloody from the viciously hooked 'wait-a bit' thorns, smelling strongly of wood smoke and dried sweat, and infested with bush ticks. I was occasionally allowed to ride on the back of my father's pickup truck while he went about the business of a cattleman.

But during a break in the fighting, Taita is alerted to the arrival of an entirely new army, who comes from a city named Sparta in the Greek province of Lacedaemon. He recognizes King Hurotas of Sparta as Capt. Zaras, an Egyptian friend whose story was told earlier in the series, and a short time later the Hyksos army is wiped out Warlock: A Novel of Ancient Egypt the Egyptians and the Spartans. Expecting a hero's welcome, Taita and the two armies go to the city of Luxor to appear before the new Pharaoh, Utteric Turo, eldest son of the late Tamose. They find Utteric is a coward and a pervert, Warlock: A Novel of Ancient Egypt turns on them and orders Taita's arrest. Taita and Hurotas turn the tables on Utteric instead, and get his begrudging permission to advance on lower Egypt and drive out the rest of the Hyksos.
