Who says today=s Thoroughbreds aren=t as tough as their ancestors? Try telling that to Juddmonte=s wonderful old stager Famous Name, who achieved a remarkable 19th stakes victory in the G3 Solonaway S. two days ago. His career figures now stand at 37-20-8-5, which means that this tough-as-teak 7-year-old has been out of the first three on only four occasions, even though 36 of his starts have been against stakes company. And it isn=t just on the racecourse that he has been busy, as his trainer Dermot Weld pointed out in yesterday=s TDN: AHe takes plenty of training and we have to work him hard to keep him fit, but his enthusiasm for being a racehorse is remarkable.@ The son of Dansili has now won one Group 2, 12 Group 3s and six listed races and I remain convinced that he would also have won the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club in 2008 but for being drawn 17 in a 20-horse field, which forced him to race wide.

COMPILED SPECIFICALLY FOR Frankel (GB) STALLION AFFINITY REPORT A comprehensive stallion analysis with all active broodmare sires Copyright © 2020 The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. STALLION AFFINITY REPORT TrueNicks: An Explanation Nicks in History Compatibilities between stallions from one sire line with mares of another sire line has helped shape the breed since the Eclipse/Herod cross of the late 18th century. These successful crosses, called nicks, have impacted Thoroughbred development through such examples as Hermit/Stockwell, Lexington/Glencoe, Bend Or/Macaroni, and Phalaris/Chaucer. In the modern era, the prolific Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross has produced outstanding racehorses and sires such as Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, and Elusive Quality. Fast-Forward to the 21st Century Computer databases have made it possible to measure and rate nicks, giving rise to a commercial market for such statistics. The first nick ratings offered to the public, though popular, were compromised by incomplete data and yielded results based on hypothetical rather than actual opportunity. This statistical gap was the impetus behind the development of TrueNicks. A Statistically Valid Approach Unlike other ratings that are calculated based on hypothetical opportunity within a limited group of horses, TrueNicks references the international database of The Jockey Club—the world’s most complete record of Thoroughbreds and their performance—to produce a sophisticated rating based on all starters and stakes winners on a given cross. The Statistics The TrueNicks rating is derived from two statistical elements: the Sire Improvement Index (SII) and the Broodmare Sire Improvement Index (BSII). Each figure compares the percentage of progeny stakes winners to starters.

Shadowing the early leader Loving Dream (GB) (Gleneagles {Ire}), who had been second at Wetherby, the grey worked her way to the front with over a furlong remaining and dug in to prevail from Save a Forest (Ire) (Kingman {GB}) as they finished in a heap. Apple Tree Stud=s manager is the former leading jumps jockey Robert Thornton and he said, AShe wasn=t far behind John Gosden=s horse [Loving Dream] at Wetherby last time and there were extenuating circumstances for our filly, as she was stood in the stalls for 10 minutes and got shuffled back. SHAMUS AWARD b.c. 2010 by Snitzel – Sunset Express by Success Express Shamus Award made history as the first three-year-old to capture both the Australian Guineas (gr. I) and the W. S. Cox Plate (gr. I). He was also precocious enough to be stakes placed over 1000m on his debut at two, going on to become a multiple graded stakes performing juvenile. Shamus Award is by grade one winning sprinter, Snitzel, the leading stallion son of Danehill’s Champion Sire, Redoute’s Choice, out of a mare by the highly-influential Success Express, also responsible for the current Leading Sire of Two-Year-Olds, Mossman. Shamus Award is one of a trio of grade one winners for Snitzel, the other two both being out of Northern Dancer line mares. Sizzling is out of a mare by General Nediym (from the Shareef Dancer branch, and a strain that could be particularly interesting here) and Snitzerland from a daughter of Fraar (by Topsider, a close relative to Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King and Nureyev). Considering the close relatives to Topsider we can note that Redoute’s Choice and his sons have sired eight stakes winners out of Sadler’s Wells line stallions, from daughters of Barathea, Blevic (by Scenic), Singspiel and Galileo.
