Our classrooms, research laboratories and performance halls are overflowing with talented students, faculty Wand others; our Medical Center continues to educate an increasing number of health professionals while delivering specialized care; and our student-athletes are competing at levels that capture national recognition and inspire alumni engagement and pride. Still, it remains critical for the University of Mississippi to vigorously pursue excellence across every campus, every discipline and every activity. With your help, we are up for the challenge. You, our deeply dedicated alumni and friends, have shown you are more than willing to provide the level of private support needed to fuel our bold vision. YOU SHATTERED ALL PREVIOUS RECORDS BY CONTRIBUTING $133.2 MILLION IN GIFTS THIS YEAR TO STRENGTHEN THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI, THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI MEDICAL CENTER AND OLE MISS ATHLETICS. We have a strategic plan to guide us in embracing opportunities we already foresee, such as serving a growing and increasingly diverse MORRIS H. STOCKS student body; supporting a world-class faculty and research enterprise; and transforming our INTERIM CHANCELLOR & state, nation and world through service and discoveries. Your tremendous generosity continues to PROFESSOR OF ACCOUNTANCY generate the momentum we need to advance our goals. When attending a recent tribute to the late Andrew Stefani – an inspiring UM professor who helped prepare countless students for stellar careers, including leadership in higher education – an interesting description was offered: Dr. Stefani encouraged all his students and faculty to “do more and be more.” Colleagues recounted how the chair of the Department of Chemistry made every penny count, using his limited budget to accomplish truly remarkable achievements. Dr. Stefani led by example, and his former students recounted how his influence encouraged them to become “better individuals and better citizens.” A simplistic plan to achieve greatness? Maybe. But such a proposal can be effective. ONE OF THE HALLMARKS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI FAMILY IS THE DEEP-ROOTED DETERMINATION AND PERSEVERANCE OF ITS PEOPLE who hope to see this university excel to greater heights, not just as an outstanding university within the borders of Mississippi but as a university recognized among the nationally preeminent institutions, producing well-prepared graduates and making significant contributions to society. The University of Mississippi is up for the challenge, largely due to your very generous private support and engagement. Once more, we found you willing to go the distance with us as we pursue excellence. This year was one for the record books. We thank you for making it possible. 3 UP FOR THE CHALLENGE • THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI UPFOR THE CHALLENGE THE ANNUAL REPORT ON PHILANTHROPY FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2015 4 UP FOR THE CHALLENGE • THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI HAT AN INSPIRING YEAR!
