This application will enable you to join the files of selected iTunes tracks together with Quick Time and export them as a single AAC file/track. Optionally, with Apple's "Chapter Tool" application installed, you can then create a "chapterized" audio file of the exported AAC file. Requires: Mac OS 10.4 ("Tiger") or better iTunes 4.9 or better (version 6 or better preferred) QuickTime Player v7.0 or better Chapter Tool required for creating "chapterized" AAC's This application is Donationware. If you use it and like it please consider making a donation to support my AppleScripting efforts. Click here for more info. Installation: Place the Join Together application anywhere it is conveniently accessible. The Applications folder is as good a place as any. Because Join Together is an application I do not recommend placing it in your iTunes Scripts folder since it cannot be accessed from the iTunes Script menu. (See the accompanying "Make A Join Together Launch Script" to create a small AppleScript that can launch Join Together from the iTunes Script menu.) QuickTime v7.x.x In order to export joined files as AAC files you must have QuickTime Player 7 or better. Chapter Tool "Chapter Tool" is a command-line application that assists with creating "chapterized" audio files, (a.k.a enhanced audio files). This script utilizes it to create such files from your joined tracks. You can download the Chapter Tool application (currently Beta 2.0b8 as of this writing) by clicking on the URL clip provided in this script's download package.

  • It's Little Wonder That Longtime Windows Users Are Migrating in Droves to the New Mac
Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition By Adam Goldstein, David Pogue ............................................... Publisher: O'Reilly Pub Date: September 2005 ISBN: 0-596-00660-8 Pages: 520 Table of Contents | Index It's little wonder that longtime Windows users are migrating in droves to the new Mac. They're fed up with the virus-prone Windows way of life, and they're lured by Apple's well-deserved reputation for producing great all-around computers that are reliable, user-friendly, well designed, and now-- with the $500 Mac mini--extremely affordable, too. Whether you're drawn to the Mac's stability, its stunning digital media suite, or the fact that a whole computer can look and feel as slick as your iPod, you can quickly and easily become a Mac convert. But consider yourself warned: a Mac isn't just a Windows machine in a prettier box; it's a whole different animal and a whole new computing experience. If you're contemplating--or have already made--the switch from a Windows PC to a Mac, you need Switching to the Mac: The Missing Manual, Tiger Edition. This incomparable guide delivers what Apple doesn't: everything you need to know to successfully and painlessly move to a Mac. Missing Manual series creator and bestselling author David Pogue teams up with 17-year-old whiz kid and founder of GoldfishSoft (www.goldfishsoft.com) Adam Goldstein to cover every aspect of switching to a Mac--things like transferring email, files, and addresses from a PC to a Mac; getting acquainted with the Mac's interface; adapting to Mac versions of familiar programs (including Microsoft Office); setting up a network to share files with PCs and Macs; and using the printers, scanners, and other peripherals you already own.

  • Applescript for Absolute Starters
APPLESCRIPT FOR ABSOLUTE STARTERS By Bert Altenburg INTRODUCTION AppleScript is a revolutionary Apple technology that makes communication between computer programs possible. For example, with AppleScript you can - retrieve e-mails from Mail and store them in a database; - tell a picture editing program to change the resolution of a series of pictures, resize them, and send the resulting pictures to another computer or post them on the Web; - and much, much more. An AppleScript, or script for short, is a series of written instructions in a scripting language named AppleScript. This language resembles the English language, making AppleScripts both easy to read, write and understand. Despite its power, AppleScript is heavily used in a couple of fields only. The publishing industry depends on it for workflow automation (PhotoShop, QuarkExpress, InDesign). Filemaker Pro developers use it for creating Mac-based kiosks, which you can find in malls and museums (k-Builder). Apart from the programs mentioned, many more major and minor Macintosh programs like GraphicConverter, BBEdit, and Word are AppleScriptable. That means you can use AppleScript to boss these programs around. Scripting applications is not the focus of this book, however. There are other books on the market that show you how to do that. If these books provide an introduction to AppleScript, it is usually cursory and they quickly dash to the really juicy stuff, which generally requires a modest or good knowledge of the basics of AppleScript. The aim of this book is to provide you just that. It is intended to update and expand this book on a regular basis.

  • IM: IC: Scripting Components
CHAPTER 10 Scripting Components 10 This chapter describes how your application can use the Component Manager and scripting components to manipulate and execute scripts. Before you read this chapter, you should read the chapter “Introduction to Scripting” in this book and the chapters about the Apple Event Manager that are relevant to your application. Your application can use the standard scripting component data structures and routines described in this chapter to manipulate scripts written in any scripting language based on the Open Scripting Architecture (OSA). Your application need not be scriptable or recordable to use these routines. However, if your application is scriptable, you can easily make it capable of manipulating and executing scripts that control its own behavior. The first section in this chapter describes how to establish a connection with a scripting component. The next two sections provide ■ examples of how to use the standard scripting component routines ■ information for developers of scripting components The section “Scripting Components Reference” describes, in addition to the standard scripting component routines, routines provided by the AppleScript component, routines provided by the generic scripting component, and routines called by scripting components. 10 If you are developing a scripting component, you should also read the instructions for creating components in the chapter “Component Manager” in Inside Macintosh: Scripting Components More Macintosh Toolbox. Connecting to a Scripting Component 10 To manipulate and execute scripts written in different scripting languages, your application can use Component Manager routines either to open a connection with each corresponding scripting component individually or to open a single connection with the generic scripting component.
