Five FBLA Members attended and represented our school and community in the most honorable ways while competing at the National FBLA Leader- ship and Competition Conference in Chicago this past June. One of our proudest moments (during this conference) was when Tyler Hess (current Junior) won 9th Place in the World for the Competition Category of “Intro to Parlia- mentary Procedures”! We are a team of 10 wonderful people working hard to meet the needs of 1,700 Broad Run students, in addition to teachers and administration. Oftentimes, we are needed to attend meetings or have appointments scheduled with other students and parents. Our doors are always open. However, we want to be available when you walk in. To better serve you, we ask that you please call or email your student’s counselor to set up an appointment in advance. Senior College and Career Program School counselors met with seniors through Government classes September 8th-10th to discuss post-high school options and review the college application process. A similar presentation was given to parents the evening of September 9th. Resources and information is posted on the school counseling website. PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) School Counseling The PSAT will be given to all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 14th from 9 am-12 noon. No registration is necessary. Students will take the PSAT through their homeroom and will receive an Official Guide to the PSAT prior to the test. The guide has great information about test taking strategies and a practice test is included. To be sure that our students perform to the best of their abilities, we encourage students to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before taking the test. Governor’s School Sophomores and juniors: Are you interested in learning about Governor's School opportunities in Academics and the Visual and Performing Arts? An interest meeting will be held in the Ca- reer Center on Friday, September 25, 2015. If there are any questions, or a student would like more information, please see Mrs. Pasek in the School Counseling Office. 4 BROAD RUN HIGH SCHOOL – PEER COUNSELING ATTENTION PARENTS & STUDENTS WELCOME TO THE NEW 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR FROM PEER, Broad Run’s Student Counseling Group. We encourage you to seek out our services this year, which include: • Helping new students feel at home at Broad Run • Helping students to deal with frustrating situations: school, teachers, assignments, etc. • Helping students to manage stress • Helping students to manage anger • Helping students with teen issues • Helping students with loss through death, divorce, or break-up • Just being there to listen when students need to vent or have someone to listen to him or her.
