One of our proudest moments (during this conference) was when Tyler Hess (current Junior) won 9th Place in the World for the Competition Category of “Intro to Parlia- mentary Procedures”! We are a team of 10 wonderful people working hard to meet the needs of 1,700 Broad Run students, in addition to teachers and administration. Oftentimes, we are needed to attend meetings or have appointments scheduled with other students and parents. Our doors are always open. However, we want to be available when you walk in. To better serve you, we ask that you please call or email your student’s counselor to set up an appointment in advance. Senior College and Career Program School counselors met with seniors through Government classes September 8th-10th to discuss post-high school options and review the college application process. A similar presentation was given to parents the evening of September 9th. Resources and information is posted on the school counseling website. PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) School Counseling The PSAT will be given to all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 14th from 9 am-12 noon. No registration is necessary. Students will take the PSAT through their homeroom and will receive an Official Guide to the PSAT prior to the test. The guide has great information about test taking strategies and a practice test is included. To be sure that our students perform to the best of their abilities, we encourage students to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast before taking the test. Governor’s School Sophomores and juniors: Are you interested in learning about Governor's School opportunities in Academics and the Visual and Performing Arts? An interest meeting will be held in the Ca- reer Center on Friday, September 25, 2015.     Special Edition | Tuesday, June 16, 2020 COVID-19 Update Governor's Updates Governor Ralph Northam announced more than $14.66 million for a new Economic Resilience and Recovery Program to respond to the unprecedented economic conditions facing Virginia and address the near and long-term impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative was created through a restructuring of Growth and Opportunity for Virginia (GO Virginia) funding. The program will focus resources on economic resilience and recovery while staying true to the GO Virginia mission of creating higher-paying jobs that strengthen and diversify regional economies. The GO Virginia Board has approved a policy to implement the Economic Resilience and Recovery Program with up to $14.66 million in GO Virginia funds. Each GO Virginia regional council may apply for up to $1 million to support strategic initiatives in response to the economic conditions caused by the COVID- 19 pandemic. In addition, the GO Virginia Board approved flexible policy changes to accelerate the deployment of funding. Applications will be accepted through the nine GO Virginia Regional Councils. For more information on the regional councils, click here. The following four projects have been administratively approved through the new Economic Resilience and Recovery Program, totaling $341,800: GO Virginia Region 2 and the Office of the Vice President for Health Sciences and Technology at Virginia Tech will receive $100,000 for Rapid High- Throughput COVID-19 Testing project. The project will deliver timely COVID- 19 test results to the New River Valley and Roanoke health districts with a projected 1,000 test samples analyzed per day.
