Still a Surprisingly Great Read with Plenty of Action and the Formation of the Bombshells' Justice LeagueBy clairetoldmetochangemyscreennameBombshells continues its strong run with this second volume in which the titular DC heroines coming face to face with the magical threat the Nazis are attempting to employ: the undead tenebrae. Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor encounter the new leader of this group of undead soliders: the Baroness Paula von Gunther who plans on leading a large scale attack on Britain. Kat Kane, the Batwoman, was taken prisoner by the tenebrae's Nazi handlers at the end of the first volume and must rely on the Huntress and Catwoman for aid behind enemy lines. Stargirl and Supergirl are mourning the capture of their father only to find out that Stargirl is the daughter of a rich socialite who wants her to give up her heroic ways. Mera is becoming fast friends with the soldiers of the British Royal Navy only to learn that they are the target of an Atlantean assault as King Nereus of Atlantis has allied with the tenebrae forces. All the disparate story arcs converge together during the book's finale when the Baroness von Gunther leads the tenebrae and the Atlantean sea monsters against London. In the midst of the battle the Bombshells join together to create their own Justice League and push back against the undead forces of Germany. The only weaker element of this book is the opening arc which follows a group of young children back in America carrying on Batwoman's legacy. It is meant to be the Bombshell title's interpretation of the Bat Family and while it isn't a bad arc it feels far too removed from the rest of the action. I was too ready for their arc to end so we could pick things back up with Wonder Woman and the others. The other issue is that the book often uses odd page layouts that alternate without clarity meaning I had to reread a few too many pages to get the actual flow of the writing as it was intended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ...wowBy raphaelaI swear things really get interesting here. BEING, MOVING, AND ENFORCING JUSTICE IN THE CITY by Rhys Juergensen Bachelor of Arts, University of Guelph, 2019 A Major Research Paper presented to Ryerson University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the program of Literatures of Modernity Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 2020 © Rhys Juergensen, 2020 AUTHOR'S DECLARATION FOR ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION OF A MRP I hereby declare that I am the sole author of this MRP. The ways in which certain agents (superheroes, for example) traverse the city can act against this practice of socio-spatial Othering, for they have the personal mobility required to experience the city’s marginalized spaces and peoples on an intimate level. However, while mobility by itself can allow one to access these spaces/peoples, it does not always allow them to truly understand them. The line between intimate engagement and total objectification is quite thin, and it often comes down to the individual superhero to determine which side of this line their enhanced access and perspectives will lead them.
