Zeitschrift Für Botanik
Diverse Berichte ZEITSCHRIFT FÜR BOTANIK HERAUSGEGEBEN VON LUDWIG JOST • HANS KNIEP FRIEDRICH OLTMANNS ZEHNTER JAHRGANG MIT 98 ABBILDUNGEN IM TEXT UND 3 TAFELN •' 6 , • V ,>"> > f JENA VERLAG VON GUSTAV FISCHER 1918 Besprechungen. Klebs, G., Zur Entwicklungsphysiologie der FarnprothaUien. 2. und 3. Teil. Sitzgsber. d. Heidelberger Akad. d. Wissensch. Math.-nat. Kl. 19 17. -

It will result in the largest gathering of Ole Timers ever assembled in "the shadow of the Tottering Tower." The Congress issue of AU RORA was prepared especially to commemorate th is occasion. It includes a thumbnail sketch of the history of the department, a summary of some of our accomplishments during 1972-73 and a statement of our aspirations, a Rogues Gallery of our current faculty and graduate students, a brief biography of each of the past department heads and a list of all graduates with the titles of their theses. We plan to continue using the format of AU RORA to keep you informed of comings and goings within the department, the disposition of Ole Timers and also as a means of conveying our plans and dreams for the Department. This special congress issue of AURORA also will be used as a public relations veh icle as we interact with our colleagues on the campus, and with various private, state, and federal granting, research, and regulatory agencies. -

Abstract For its fascinating sex life, of course! The German mycologist Hans Kniep (1930) was the first ot discover that the wood-rotting basidiomycete, Schizophyllum commune, recombines its genome regularly and propagates effectively by consorting with any one of many compatible mates through a system known as tetrapolar sexuality, a term describing the meiotic segregation of four different mating types.
