RAF KENLEY AIRSHOW REPLACED BY SOUTHEND AIRSHOW! “75th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN” TOUR Monday, 7th – Monday, 21st September, 2015 “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” was spoken by the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, referring to the ongoing efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who were at the time fighting the Battle of Britain (BoB), the pivotal air battle with the German Luftwaffe with Britain expecting a German invasion. Churchill first spoke his famous words upon his exit from 11 Fighter Group’s underground operations control centre at RAF Uxbridge which he visited on 16th August during the battle (which we visit on Day 3). Pictured left are Spitfire pilots of No 610 Squadron, at RAF Biggin Hill during September 1940. This 15‐day tour concentrates solely on the Battle, visiting various airfields, sites, monuments ‐ and 2 airshows ‐ commemorating what was a huge turning point not only of Great Britain’s and Europe’s history but that of the whole world. Had the battle been lost the world as we know it could have turned out very differently. Personalities such as Witold Lutoslawski, Josef Czapski, Witold Gombrowicz, Witold Pilecki are famous figures in the 20th Century, all very different characters and all from Landed Gentry families. -

For many years Krakow was the royal capital of Poland until 17 th c. They also often have some unique capabilities to do research and development (R&D). However, these possibilities are often known only to a small group of industry specialists and few parliamentary representatives. There is also a lack of information about research capabilities of R&D institutes in industry, especially among small and medium enterprises. The aim of the article is to present the concept of a multidisciplinary research project aimed at testing by a scientific research institution the possibility of using social media and modern techniques of visualization and computer simulation in aircraft reconstruction engineering. The authors propose to try the approach of marketing campaign capabilities of research and development institutions in a way similar to the action of raising funds for some purpose, but unlike this type of action, the campaign should be aimed at increasing technical awareness of the society. As part of the pilot program, the authors propose a virtual reconstruction of the construction of the Polish PZL P-50 Jastrząb fighter plane whose two prototypes were created before the outbreak of World War II. -

RAF Uxbridge, LB Hillingdon Environmental Statement, Scoping Report 5. KEY ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES 5.1 The key environmental effects of the proposed development are considered below. Circular 2/99 (paragraph 82) recommends that the role of EIA is to examine “the ‘main’ or ‘significant’ effects to which a development is likely to give rise”. The purpose of scoping is to determine, from a review of all possible effects, those that are likely to be significant and to ensure that resources and time are focussed on an examination of only those effects that are likely to give rise to significant effects. Schedule 4 of the EIA Regulations provides guidance by listing the elements of the environment which might be affected by the development including: population; fauna; flora; soil; water; air; climatic factors; material assets; landscape and the inter – relationship between them. 5.2 Having regard to the above, and following consideration of the potential effects likely to arise from the propose development, the environmental issues to be considered in the ES have been categorised under the following headings: Human Beings; Transport; Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Noise and Vibration; Soils, Geology and Ground Contamination; Water Resources; Ecology; Landscape, Townscape and Visual; Archaeology and Cultural Heritage; and Waste Management 5.3 This section provides the following information under each of the above headings: Summary of the existing environment; Preliminary identification of effects; and Breakdown of the proposed EIA methodology. These warships are primarily deployed to deter aggression and protect American strategic interests. Should deterrence fail, the carrier’s bombers and attack aircraft engage in vital operations to support other forces. The collection includes the 1940-designed Grumman TBM Avenger of World War II. Also on display is the Douglas A-1 Skyraider, a true workhorse of the 1950s and ‘60s, as well as the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk and Grumman A-6 Intruder, stalwarts of the Vietnam War. Photo: Collection of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum GRUMMAN / EASTERNGRUMMAN AIRCRAFT AVENGER TBM-3E GRUMMAN/EASTERN AIRCRAFT TBM-3E AVENGER TORPEDO BOMBER First flown in 1941 and introduced operationally in June 1942, the Avenger became the U.S. Navy’s standard torpedo bomber throughout World War II, with more than 9,836 constructed. Originally built as the TBF by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, they were affectionately nicknamed “Turkeys” for their somewhat ungainly appearance. Bomber Torpedo In 1943 Grumman was tasked to build the F6F Hellcat fighter for the Navy.
