Its façade is instantly recognizable by its superb blue mosaic, which dates back to 1932 and is classified as a Historical Monument of Paris. The mosaic was crafted by a Master Artisan who also created several other shop windows in the Marais." - Florence Kahn Bakery At this boulangerie, you'll find fantastic bagels, pastries, sandwiches, and more. An excellent spot to start the day with a light breakfast or stop in for a snack. There are frequent showings of short films and documentaries on weekend afternoons. The Japanese garden at the entrance is a delight." - Lonely Planet 8 Euro admission. Opening hours Sunday 11AM-7:45PM Monday Closed Tuesday Closed Wednesday 11AM-7:45PM Thursday 11AM-7:45PM Friday 11AM-7:45PM Saturday 11AM-7:45PM Phone number: +33 1 44 78 75 00 Website: http://www.mep-fr.org/ Reviews https://www.yelp.com/biz/maison-europ%C3%A9enne-de-la-photographie-paris-2 http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187147-d532331-Reviews- La_Maison_Europeenne_de_la_Photographie-Paris_Ile_de_France.html 4: Stroll along the Champs-Élysées (Activity) Address: Champs-Élysées, Paris, France About: Frequently described as ‘the world’s most beautiful avenue’, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is a Paris must- see. It is lined with restaurants (everything from the Hard Rock Café, to l’Atelier Renault and the 3-star Michelin Ledoyen etc.), luxury boutiques (Louis Vuitton, Mont-Blanc, Guerlain, Ferrari etc.), flagship stores (Banana Republic, Abercrombie, Sephora etc.) and nightclubs. Opening hours Sunday 12AM-12AM Monday 12AM-12AM Tuesday 12AM-12AM Wednesday 12AM-12AM Thursday 12AM-12AM Friday 12AM-12AM Saturday 12AM-12AM Reviews https://www.yelp.com/biz/avenue-des-champs-%C3%A9lys%C3%A9es-paris-3 https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g187147-d209760-Reviews-Champs_Elysees- Paris_Ile_de_France.html 5: Oysters at L'HUÎTRADE by Guy Savoy (Restaurant) Address: 13 Rue Troyon, 75017 Paris, France About: Stop in for oysters and champagne at Guy Savoy’s oyster bar, L’Huitrade. Try the Grand Huitre, a sampler of 8 different French oysters. These are meatier than any US oyster you’d find, and a blend of the best of East and West Coast styles - super briny at first, with a clean cucumber finish after. If you're looking for more, the trio of 3 prepared oysters is also fantastic. Our favorite was the 3rd of the trio, an oyster tartare. If you ask, L'Huitrade also serves wild and very old oysters. We held a 20-year old belon in our hands and ordered an 8-year old wild maldon. They're 14 Euro a pop, but nowhere else will you find such rare and delicious bivalves. Opening hours Sunday Closed Monday Closed Tuesday 11:30AM-2:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM Wednesday 11:30AM-2:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM Thursday 11:30AM-2:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM Friday 11:30AM-2:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM Saturday 11:30AM-2:30PM, 6:30PM-10:30PM Phone number: +33 1 44 09 95 85 Website: http://www.huitrade.fr/fr/ Reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/l-huitrade-paris http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187147-d7365723-Reviews-L_huitrade-Paris_Ile_de_France.html 6: Dine at Apicius (Restaurant) Reservation: Reservation on Sat 4/09/16 at 1:00 PM for 2 Address: 20 Rue d'Artois, 75008 Paris, France About: This is a beautiful and gorgeous restaurant just off the Champs-Elysee. Set in a 19th century villa, the venue has stunning gardens, decor, and a grand entrance. The food is simple and focused on quality ingredients - every ingredient is sourced from the French town for which it is most well-known. Chef Jean-Pierre Vigato has a passion for beautiful things, and without a doubt, it translates onto the plate. Enjoy the chef's tasting menu for 220 Euro per person, or order a la carte. Note: Men will want to wear a jacket for dinner. Pierre Hermé might just be able to claim the title of world's most acclaimed living pastry chef. Especially lauded for his always-creative, perfectly textured macarons - those light, airy pastries made with almonds, sugar, and ganache or cream filling that should not be conflated with coconut cookies of a similar name. Hermé has been called "the Picasso of pastry" by Vogue magazine and won legions of foodie-devotees. Britain's Observer magazine once deemed his chocolate cake one of the "fifty best things to eat in the world." In addition to his iconic macarons, delivered in flavors as traditional as pistachio or as eclectic as matcha tea, grapefruit-nutmeg-clove, and foie-gras. Opening hours Sunday 10AM-10:30PM Monday 10AM-10:30PM Tuesday 10AM-10:30PM Wednesday 10AM-10:30PM Thursday 10AM-10:30PM Friday 10AM-10:30PM Saturday 10AM-10:30PM Phone number: 01 43 54 47 77 Website: http://www.pierreherme.com/content/FR/FR/boutiques 8: Stroll Historic Neighborhood, Le Marais (Activity) Address: Le Marais, Paris, France About: Le Marais is a quintessential example of old meets new in Paris. Historically, it was the Jewish neighborhood of Paris, and you'll still find relics of its past as exampled by the many falafel shops and kosher bakeries. These days, it is dominated by stylish boutiques, art galleries, trendy cafes, and thriving LGBTQ population. Wander the winding cobblestone streets and get lost in one of the romantic parts of the city. As its name hints it, L’Eclaireur is always ahead, pointing the new direction to follow, having the vision of what’s next in the universe of fashion, art and design. Rue de Sévigné, opened in October 2009 was realized by Arne Quinze in a futuristic vision with more than 120 screens and sliding pannels to dissimulate the clothes…the Rue de Sévigné store is an installation where reality and illusion inter- play constantly. Arne Quinze was saying about L'Eclaireur Rue de Sévigné: "This is not just a shop, it’s an experience. The project grew as a dream fed by emotions, history and memories. • Press Kit: VINCI, the Art of Museums
PRESS KIT VINCI, the art of museums Press kit /// VINCI, the art of museums /// June 2013 1 Introduction The Museum concept was first introduced in Europe, primarily in France, at the end of the 18th century for reasons that originally had nothing to do with economics or urban amenity. Until the 1950s, the purpose of the museum was exclusively conservation, in a continuation of the 19th century tradition of private collections. The real museum revolution originated primarily in the United States, where Peggy Guggenheim laid the foundations for the 20th century museum industry, and was also driven by democratisation and the development of cultural industries in Europe. Today, the number, role and visibility of these institutions have undergone radical change. No longer exclusively focused on conservation, the museum has become a flagship institution that lends resonance to the community. Cultural activities create economic value and give cities momentum. Culture also promotes social inclusion when approached as a way to improve "living together". The museum is now seen as an urban landmark and a driver of urban life. With its innovative and bold architecture, the museum is often a work of art in its own right. Building or renovating a museum is therefore a high profile but complex operation. The success of such projects requires broad vision, acknowledged capabilities in advanced technology engineering, sophisticated resources, flawless coordination and total commitment to managing people. On the strength of these qualities, VINCI companies regularly work on exceptional museum projects around the world. Their design, building, network and maintenance expertise makes all the difference in the demanding museum market.

  • Sikkema Jenkins & Co. Is Pleased to Present a Solo Exhibition of New
Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Sheila Hicks on view at the gallery from October 22 through November 28, 2015. For over 50 years, Sheila Hicks has expanded the boundaries of the woven form to create a distinctive and innovative body of work that defies traditional categorization into the fields of fine art, craft, design, and architecture. While constantly innovating with the use of novel materials and forms, Hicks’ work continues to reflect her early art training. A student of Josef Albers at Yale in the 1950s, color remains a central concern for Hicks. Awarded a Fulbright scholarship to paint in Chile, Hicks photographed indigenous weavers and archeological sites in the Andes. This, along with extended trips throughout Peru, Bolivia and the volcanic region of Villarrica, the island of Chiloé, and Tierra del Fuego, reinforced Hicks’ interest in the textile vocabulary as an artistic medium which she continues to expand today. The current exhibition revisits and reimagines The Treaty of Chromatic Zones, a monumental bas- relief of pure pigmented fiber originally realized for Art Basel Unlimited in June of 2015. Hicks showcases the supple and flexible qualities of her materials, sometimes deconstructing and reassembling previously used entities to explore their infinite possibilities of form and movement. The Evolving Tapestry: He/She, 1967-68, in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, exemplifies this idea: thousands of spun, twisted, bound and stacked yarns of linen and silk are amassed and morph into different shapes and structures each time the work is installed.
