3 Celebrating a Decade of Diversity

In May 2000, MGM Resorts International voluntarily embraced Diversity as a core value and business imperative, in both policy and practice, vital to the future success of our Company. The premise of that declaration was a simple maxim: diversity is a key driver to business success and a competitive advantage in the 21st century global economy. This mandate – envisioning diversity as a business engine rather than an add-on social program – was unprecedented in the gaming and hotel industry and had historic ramifications. It not only established our Company’s Diversity Initiative as the leader in our industry but also launched MGM Resorts on a path of distinction in diversity acclaimed throughout corporate America during the past decade. From the outset our Company’s top leadership applied rigorous business discipline and invested substantial resources in installing diversity consistently throughout our operations: • During the initial years we defined our business goals and created the infrastructure necessary for goals definition, performance and results measurement in the core functions at our corporate and property levels. • We made diversity a significant part of our annual business planning processes. • We added new institutions and structures to our blueprint – the Diversity Committee of the Board of Directors and the Department of Corporate Diversity, and institutionalized our diversity training models. • We developed new information systems to collect and assimilate accurate data. • We cultivated constructive relationships with diverse community partners and constituencies in our host communities and across the nation. • We have combined consistency in basic philosophy with flexibility and innovation in means and methods at our corporate departments and operating properties. Beyond our progressive gains in systems, statistics, and metrics, our Diversity Initiative is a bridge to greater unity and success throughout our Company. Our Company’s top leadership, property management and employees strive everyday to leverage our diversity into results- oriented synergy – a catalyst for greater team work, greater productivity and cutting-edge ingenuity in our Company. Upon his installation in 2008 as our new Chairman and CEO, Jim Murren – a steadfast advocate of our Diversity Initiative from its inception – declared himself as our Company’s “Diversity Champion in Chief,” and decreed diversity a hallmark of his administration. Integral to his ambitious agenda is his challenge to our entire Company to drive diversity deeper into our culture and enlarge its contribution to our business mission. 2008-2009
