Like the other Dales Trails, this is also about sixty miles in length and can be comfortably completed by anyone that is reasonably fit in five days, with four nights Bed & Breakfast accommodation. The aim, as before, is to establish a link from Dale to Dale using some of the public rights of way that are less frequently walked. In fact this time we were to discover places with no trace of a path existing on the ground. -

Recently, the body of literature on the role of sediment in the HZ has grown, though these studies rarely extend beyond the reach scale with little regional scale research undertaken in England and Wales. -

Z - environment agency plan SWALE, URE AND OUSE ACTION PLAN JULY 1998 _____ En v ir o n m e n t Ag e n c y EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The area contained within the Swale, Ure and Ouse Local Environment Agency Plan (LEAP) is a geographically diverse area including the protected uplands of two National Parks, rural countryside, the Port of Selby and the historical city of York. The Environment Agency is one of many organisations which protect the fragile and important Swale, Ure and Ouse area. This Action Plan outlines the strategy for activity that the Agency intends to undertake in partnership with others in the Swale, Ure and Ouse area during the next five years. Within this plan, a number of actions have been accepted by the Agency and other organisations. Key Actions for the Swale, Ure and Ouse Area: • prevent pollution from rural activities; • reduce the impact of discharges, in particular to the River Ouse; • protect the natural beauty and conserve the native flora and fauna; • limit the impact on the environment of mining in the Selby area; • protect the groundwater resources and minimise the impact of recent and future droughts; • reduce the environmental impact from industrial sites by improved operational practice; • protect people and property from flooding where economically and environmentally feasible. The Environment Agency must work in partnership with,others to carry out certain environmental improvements. There are significant opportunities to further improve effluent disposal, to minimise pollution from rural land uses and the impact of mining on the environment and to promote best practice to better protect the environment. -

North Yorkshire County Council Business and Environmental Services Executive Members 21 February 2020 Flood and Water Management Act 2010 Section 19 Investigation and Report on the 30 July 2019 Flooding Events in Richmondshire Report of the Assistant Director – Highways and Transportation 1.0 Purpose of Report 1.1 To inform the Corporate Director, Business and Environmental Services (BES) and BES Executive members of the response of Risk Management Authorities to the significant flood events which occurred in Richmondshire in July 2019. 1.2 To seek the approval of the Corporate Director, BES, in consultation with BES Executive Members for the publication of the Richmondshire Section 19 Flood Risk Investigation Report, on the NYCC Website. 2.0 Flood reporting requirements of NYCC in its capacity as Lead Local Flood Authority 2.1 Section 19 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 (FWMA) requires Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFA’s) to investigate flooding incidents and then publish a report on the results of its investigation. 2.2 When a flooding incident has occurred, the Act requires LLFA’s to investigate which Risk Management Authorities have relevant flood risk management functions, and whether each of those Risk Management Authorities has exercised, or is proposing to exercise, those functions in response to the flood. Where a LLFA carries out an investigation, it is required to publish the results of its investigation and notify any relevant Risk Management Authorities. 2.3 North Yorkshire County Council’s Flood Risk Management Team investigates all reported incidents of flooding accordingly, in a manner proportionate to the specific characteristics of the incident. -

River Cover, River The River Swale begins life as a series of small becks on the Northern Burn, River Skell, RiverTutt, River Laver Pennines within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. River Wharfe, River Aire before turning south eastwards to join th(^Ure at Boroughbridge. WATER QUALITY OF THE SWALE, URE AND OUSE CATCHMENT The Ure also rises on the Pennines in the Yorkshire Dales National Park Swale: Good 3 1 5.8km, Fair 60.9km, just south of the Swale. The river becomes known as the Ouse at the point Bad/Poor 17.7 km where Ouse Gill beck runs in. From there, the Ouse flows south through Ure: Good 336.8km, Fair I 3.7km, the City of York to Naburn Weir, below which the river is tidal. Bad/Poor 0.0km Ouse. Specification (summary of requirements under Art.4 (2)) 4.1 Name: Yorkshire Wensleydale 4.2 Description: Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is a pressed cheese made from cow‘s milk. It can be made with either fresh, raw or, pasteurised milk. 1 The cheese is a creamy-white colour with an open crumbly, textured appearance. The outside of the cheese is more yellow, this inconsistency is the hallmark of a truly handmade product (particularly in the cloth-bound cheeses), and which is not found in mass-produced versions of Wensleydale cheese. Its firm crumbly, texture, is a result of a combination of the starter cultures, manual processes and the milk used. The cheese has a crumblier and less dense, solid texture than other similar products.
