The new partnership will bring some of the most exciting prospects in the game to Blue Wahoos Stadium alongside the storied legacy of Twins baseball. Twins history began in 1961 when Washington Senators president Calvin Griffith made the historic decision to move his family’s team to the Midwest, settling on the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in Minnesota. The new team was named after the state’s famous Twin Cities and began their inaugual season with a talented roster featuring Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Camilo Pascual, and Jim Lemon. Homegrown talents Jim Kaat, Zoilo Versalles, Jimmie Hall, and Tony Oliva combined with the Twins already potent nucleus to make the team a force to be reckoned with in the 1960s. -

The Boston Red Sox Thursday, October 29, 2020 * The Boston Globe Your guide to the Red Sox' offseason Julian McWilliams The Red Sox offseason is officially underway with the conclusion of the World Series, and it will certainly be different from years past because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That reality isn’t exclusive to the Red Sox. The sport as a whole has taken a financial hit throughout 2020 and each team will have to navigate an offseason with even more uncertainty ahead. Nevertheless, here’s a guide to what to expect this offseason. Who will be the manager? It’s clear that Ron Roenicke was just a bridge manager in 2020, helping to get chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox to this point, but he wasn’t Bloom’s choice for the job going forward. Many have speculated that former Sox manager Alex Cora would be a good choice to return as manager after serving a year-long suspension for his involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. Cora’s suspension ended when the World Series did, and teams are now free to contact him. The Sox have interviewed Chicago Cubs third base coach Will Venable, Arizona Diamondbacks bench coach Luis Urueta, Pirates bench coach Don Kelly, Twins bench coach Mike Bell, Padres associate manager Skip Schumaker, and Marlins bench coach James Rowson. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman suggested that they could have interest in Dodgers first base coach George Lombard, a former Red Sox minor league instructor. Cora has a good rapport with the players in addition to Red Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner as well as team president and CEO Sam Kennedy, who said last month that the managerial search will ultimately be Bloom’s decision. -

The Boston Red Sox Wednesday, October 28, 2020 * The Boston Globe With the World Series over, the Alex Cora watch has officially begun Alex Speier The Alex Cora watch is officially underway. With the World Series over, Cora’s yearlong suspension for his participation in a sign-stealing scheme by the 2017 Astros has concluded. The former Red Sox manager, who’d been on MLB’s restricted list, is now able to interview with teams for the 2021 season and beyond. The conclusion of Cora’s suspension comes at a time when the Red Sox are looking to fill the very managerial role he vacated was his nine months ago. Curiosity is running high in the industry — including in many corners of the Red Sox organization — about whether Cora and the Red Sox will pursue a reunion. The Red Sox have already interviewed at least seven managerial candidates — none with major league managing experience. While many see Cora as a presumptive favorite to be rehired based on the strong relationships he has with many members of his former team, the Red Sox front office was meticulously noncommittal as to whether they will consider him as a candidate for his former position. “I don’t want to get into the business of saying a lot of things about him that I haven’t had a chance to say to him,” chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said at the end of September. “So I don’t want to get into any more detail that that.” Cora left the Red Sox organization Jan. -
