Press Release
Press Release June 13, 2013 PENTAX Q7 The minimum sized interchangeable lens digital camera with an extra-large image sensor; the top-of-the-line model of the PENTAX Q series, available in 120 color combinations PENTAX RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce the launch of the PENTAX Q7 digital lens-interchangeable camera. Developed as the top-of-the-line model of the PENTAX Q series, this new model is equipped with an image sensor much larger than those of its sister Q-series models for upgraded image quality, while retaining the super-compact, ultra-lightweight body that comfortably fits in the photographer’s palm. Launched as the flagship model of the popular PENTAX Q series , the PENTAX Q7 offers casual, carefree digital-SLR-quality photography to everyone. Thanks to a new 1/1.7-inch, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor — the largest in the Q series — the Q7 delivers image quality that has been much improved from its sister models. It also offers a host of the advanced features expected in a top-of-the-series model, including high-sensitivity shooting at a top sensitivity of ISO 12800 (compared to ISO 6400 for the Q10); improved shake-reduction performance; reduced operation time lag at start-up and between exposures; and effortless, user-friendly operation. In addition, it features an array of creative tools such as Bokeh Control and Smart Effect, which assist the photographer in easily creating more personalized images. Major Features 1. Extra-large 1/1.7-inch image sensor — the largest in the Q series Thanks to the incorporation of a new 1/1.7-inch, back-illuminated CMOS image sensor, the PENTAX Q7 boasts the finest image quality in the Q series. -

We see how Nikon’s D5 copes with ice-hockey boot camp Ice on the black sand beach at Jökulsárlón.raw ON THE ICE BEACH IT’S A DARK, SOMBRE WINTER’S DAY. The grey cloud is low, and the rain is steady, but the muted light is just perfect for the subject matter all around me, namely waves lapping around the artfully sculpted blocks of ice on the black sand. Now I’ve seen many images of this unique combination before – it’s an Icelandic photographic staple – but there’s no resisting the appeal of such stark, elemental beauty. In fact it’s a beauty that is enhanced by the flat lighting, a cold scene of black and blue with simple graphic appeal. But as so often is the case here in Iceland the conditions are difficult: apart from the rain, salty spray is being driven inshore off the waves and onto my increasingly crusty camera, lens and filter. So be it, such adversity is now familiar. -

Lens Mount and Flange Focal Distance
This is a page of data on the lens flange distance and image coverage of various stills and movie lens systems. It aims to provide information on the viability of adapting lenses from one system to another. Video/Movie format-lens coverage: [caveat: While you might suppose lenses made for a particular camera or gate/sensor size might be optimised for that system (ie so the circle of cover fits the gate, maximising the effective aperture and sharpness, and minimising light spill and lack of contrast... however it seems to be seldom the case, as lots of other factors contribute to lens design (to the point when sometimes a lens for one system is simply sold as suitable for another (eg large format lenses with M42 mounts for SLR's! and SLR lenses for half frame). Specialist lenses (most movie and specifically professional movie lenses) however do seem to adhere to good design practice, but what is optimal at any point in time has varied with film stocks and aspect ratios! ] 1932: 8mm picture area is 4.8×3.5mm (approx 4.5x3.3mm useable), aspect ratio close to 1.33 and image circle of ø5.94mm. 1965: super8 picture area is 5.79×4.01mm, aspect ratio close to 1.44 and image circle of ø7.043mm. 2011: Ultra Pan8 picture area is 10.52×3.75mm, aspect ratio 2.8 and image circle of ø11.2mm (minimum). 1923: standard 16mm picture area is 10.26×7.49mm, aspect ratio close to 1.37 and image circle of ø12.7mm. -

Will there be Speed Boosters® for M42 and Pentax K? We will be looking into M42 and Pentax K in the future. We do not have an estimated date yet. Disclaimer: this shall not be construed as a commitment to ship - we are not done prototyping any of these yet but we will conduct testing to decide if these lenses are free of interference issues with the optics of the Speed Boosters® before we will be able to turn them into actual products. Will there be Speed Boosters® for DSLR camera bodies? No. The mirror gets in the way but there is no room for the optics. Will Samsung NX cameras be supported? No. Unfortunately, it is not possible to fit the optics inside the Samsung NX mount owing to flange distance and physical interference issues Why don't we have a 0.5x MFT Speed Booster® for Micro Four Thirds? With the amount of available room prescribed by the MFT mount, 0.71x is the lowest we can go while maintaining compatibility with the broadest range of MFT cameras. Our MFT Speed Booster® XL 0.64x has a protruding rear element which does not fit every MFT camera and it is the the lowest we can go without compromising image quality. We do have a 0.5x Speed Booster but that is for the Pentax Q mount, made possible by its smaller sensor. Does Speed Booster® for Nikon G lens work with Nikon F lens? Yes! Nikon G supports not only Nikon G lenses, but Nikon F mount lenses, too, including non-AI, AI, AI-S, AF, AF-D, AF-I, AF-S, etc., etc. -
Quick Approximation of Camera's Spectral Response from Casual Lighting
2013 IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision Workshops Quick Approximation of Camera’s Spectral Response from Casual Lighting Dilip K. Prasad Rang Nguyen Michael S. Brown School of Computing, National University of Singapore [email protected] |[email protected]| [email protected] Abstract Knowing the RGB spectral sensitivities of a camera is useful for several image processing applications. Howev- er, camera manufacturers seldom provide this information. Calibration methods for determining them can be daunt- ing, requiring either sophisticated instruments or carefully controlled lighting. This paper presents a quick and easy method that provides a reasonable approximation of the camera response functions with only a color chart and ca- sual unknown illuminations. Our approach is enabled by careful design of the cost function that imposes several con- straints on the problem to make it tractable. In the com- ponents of the cost function, the Luther condition provides the global shape prior and the commercial lighting systems with unknown spectra provide narrow spectral windows for local reconstruction. The quality of reconstruction is com- parable with other methods that use known illumination. Figure 1. Reconstructing camera response functions from casual lighting 1. Introduction and Background While RGB images are the defacto standard format used ment setup such as monochromator and spectrophotometer. in most computer vision and image processing algorithms, While these approaches are successful, they are limited to a the images are formed from a more complex description of lab environment, making it impractical for widespread ap- the scene in the spectral domain. In particular, RGB images plication or incorporation in commercial image processing are formed by the integration of the spectral illumination, tools. -

With its complete adapter ring system it supports almost any combination of lens and camera systems. You can combine most medium-format lenses and nearly all 35 mm lenses and special lenses with any size camera body up to 6 x 7 format. The BALPRO T/S provides a tilt and shift function at the front and back of the bellows; the standard adjustment is 26 mm horizontally, the rotation 15° left and 15° right. In normal shooting position, you can take ideal photographs according to Scheimpflug. Turn the bellows by 90° to portrait format to compensate for converging lines. Canon EOS systems even support full transfer of all data between camera and EF-lenses when attaching the EOS-RETRO.
