Be Part of WPR's Online Community Meet WPR's Development Director, Dora Zúñiga "Nearly 20 years ago a friend invited me to listen to WPR and I've been hooked ever since," said Dora Zúñiga, who was named WPR's new development director in June. "WPR and NPR help me learn about Wisconsin and the world. They allow me to hear different points of view and draw my own conclusions about the issues that affect my life. I'm looking forward to extending an invitation to those unfamiliar with our programs on-air and online and, at the same time, to building relationships with those who already share our passion for unbiased news, inspiring music and cultural coverage in Wisconsin and around the world."

In her more than 25 years of fundraising experience in the greater Madison community, Zúñiga has led two nonprofits ---- Centro Hispano and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County ---- and worked as director of leadership giving at the United Way of Dane County. Among her honors, she was named the 2014 UMOS Hispanic Woman of the Year, the same year she earned the Madison Rotary Vocational Service Award. She received the Roberto G. Sanchez Leadership Award from Centro Hispano in 2013, and in 2003 she was noted as one of the "all time top 125 most influential Madisonians" by Madison Magazine.

In announcing her hire, WPR Director Mike Crane said, "I have had the pleasure of knowing Dora for many years and found she is a dynamic, exciting, and effective leader. I'm thrilled she's joining our team!"

WPR's KUWS in Superior Celebrates 50 Years

Next year, WPR will celebrate 100 years of broadcasting from Madison, but the network of 35 stations that connect the state today would not be possible without radio pioneers on campuses throughout the University of Wisconsin System. This year, WPR's KUWS will celebrate 50 years of broadcasting from the UW-Superior campus.

To celebrate the anniversary, WPR and the UW-Superior Alumni Association are holding a special KUWS/WSSU reception on Saturday, July 23 from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. at the Holden Fine Arts Center on the UW-Superior campus. This free event includes tours of the recently renovated studios. A buffet dinner will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Epic Restaurant and Lounge. Tickets for the dinner are $25 each.

Find details on both events and registration here.

WPR is bringing back the popular summer bus tour to northern Wisconsin's Big Top Chautauqua, home of Tent Show Radio. Our trip takes place August 28-29 with departures from Stevens Point, Wausau and Chippewa Falls.

Participants will attend the Big Top's production of "Population 485," a staged adaptation of Michael Perry's sometimes comic, sometimes heartbreaking bestselling memoir of life, death and hilarity from the perspective of a small-town fire department. The show features musical collaboration with Sean Carey of Bon Iver.
