The rising water from the Davis Dam covered this landmark. The Davis Dam was started in 1942 and completed in 1953. The popularity of Laughlin, Nevada helped greatly with the growth in the area. Bullhead City was incorporated on August 28, 1984.

Laughlin, Nevada This location, consisting of a bar and motel, was established in the 1940’s for the construction workers who built Davis Dam and for gold and silver miners. After the dam construction was finished, the town was basically deserted.

Don Laughlin, a Las Vegas entrepreneur, bought the property in 1964. Laughlin converted the motel and bar into the Riverside Resort. He initially offered 98 cent dinners, slot machines and two live gaming tables. Four of the motel’s rooms were used for guests and the other four for Mr. Laughlin and his family. The postal inspector named the town for Mr. Laughlin. In 1972, 48 rooms were added and in 1986, a 14-floor high-rise was built.

Other casinos were soon to follow and growth also took off in Bullhead City. Shuttle boats were used to transport gamblers from Arizona to Laughlin. In 1987, Don Laughlin had the Laughlin Bridge built and donated at a cost of $3.5 million. Today there are many thriving casinos, stores, shows and resorts, helping make tourism a primary employer in the area.
