Lydia Reed – The Lake District Challenge organiser

“I took part in this challenge in 2015 and it was a truly incredible experience.”

“It was tough and really tested my determination, but with such a high-spirited team, plenty of laughter and a fantastic safety team motivating me throughout, I did it and it was one of the best things I have ever done. Nothing beats the feeling of accomplishment when you come down from the final peak and celebrate with the rest of the team.”

“I am really excited to be a part of this challenge in 2016 and I am on hand to guide you through this huge personal challenge. From fundraising ideas to training tips, I am here to take care of all the arrangements, leaving you free to concentrate on walking, enjoying the breath-taking scenery and raising funds to help fight meningitis in the UK.”

KATIE’S Katie Clarke lost her dad to meningitis STORY when she was just nine years old

“My own experience of meningitis was a fair few years ago, when my Dad died from the disease. I was just 9 years old and it was a traumatic time for me and my family. It took me a long time to properly come to terms with it. Now I’m in my late 20s, giving something back to help others affected by meningitis is a positive thing to do! Having run the London Marathon for the charity a few years ago I decided another physical challenge should be on the cards. I chose the ‘Lake District Challenge’. It truly was the experience of a lifetime. Not only was I surrounded by beautiful countryside but I also met the most amazing group of individuals, all with different experiences of meningitis. Some were affected directly, some indirectly, but everyone was incredibly understanding and supportive of others’ reasons for participating in the challenge. The challenge itself is definitely a ‘challenge’ at times, with steep inclines, steeper descents and some pretty daunting and varying terrain - it’s not for the faint hearted. However, the staff and safety team are incredible. With emotions flying high for so many reasons they never fail to encourage you when you’re struggling and to make you smile when you’re not sure you can carry on! I would recommend this challenge to everyone. I found it hard at times, but at every summit the camaraderie and achievement made it well worth it. I laughed more than I imagined possible, cried at least once and made amazing friends, all whilst raising money for a fantastic charity.”
