Dear Raider Nation,

"Old Man Winter" has been on the move and seems to have followed me to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee and Division I Council meetings in Indianapolis. I hope to leave him here when I return to Hamilton. While walking through an airport, I saw a T-shirt with "OWN THE COLD" and I wanted to buy it for all of our coaches and student-athletes who have been training and competing during winter break. They are certainly owning the cold and happy to be competing in maroon and white!

Both our men's and women's ice hockey teams are nationally ranked (women #4 and men #19) and continuing to compete successfully in one of the best and most competitive ice hockey conferences in the country. We are VERY happy to have Colton Point back with his Raider family. Congratulations to Colton and Team Canada for winning the IIHF World Junior Championships! Most in Canada would agree that the Junior Championships event is as popular if not more so than the Winter Olympic Games. Thanks to Colton, was mentioned at least once a day for two months throughout Canada and by every media outlet around the world during the world junior championships.

Women's hockey sits in a first-place tie with defending national champion Clarkson at 10-2-0 in the conference. We knocked off the Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime at their place back in late October.

Tuesday, our women captured their 20th win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Syracuse (always good to take down the Orange!) in front of a huge crowd of schoolchildren in our inaugural Kids Day for women's hockey. That's three straight 20-win seasons for the Raiders - and lots of smiling faces heading home to tell mom and dad what a great time they had at the Class of 1965 Arena! Union and RPI visit this weekend as we look to keep our momentum going. The rematch against Clarkson takes place Jan. 27 at the Class of 1965 Arena.

Men's hockey is 6-3-1 in ECAC Hockey (10-8-4 overall) and alone in fifth place heading into the big home-and-home series against Cornell. Friday's game is in Ithaca and then Saturday it's back home for a 7:30 p.m. start. Tickets are selling fast for this one!

Our swimming and diving programs are coming off a thrilling sweep at Holy Cross. The women prevailed 167-122 thanks to two wins apiece from Carolyn Silverman, Beth Caruana and Megan Gallagher. And the men captured the final race of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, by .07 seconds to bring home their victory. Hank Alderoty, Ryan Mathes, Seamus Fitzhenry and Nick Diebold made up the victorious 400 relay, while first-year Camden Koch captured three individual event titles and one relay win.

As proud as we are of our athletic achievements, we are equally proud of academic successes. Congratulations to men's soccer player Nick Le '17 for winning the inaugural Roger Nola Prize for Best Undergraduate Paper in Sports Economics. His paper was titled "Evaluating Crime as a http://www.gocolgateraiders.com/html_emails/20180116_142625_540865233.html?elinkdata=@ELINKDATA@&utm_medium=sidearm-email&utm_sou… 1/4 2/1/2018 CAC Newsletter - 1.16.18 Negative Externality of Hosting Mega-Events: Econometric Analysis of the 2012 London Summer Olympics."

Photo 1: Congratulations to men's ice hockey coach for earning his 400th career victory with the team's win over Brown! Victories never come easy and Coach Vaughan has always handled victory ... and defeat ... with class. This photo was taken 2 years ago at the Titanic Museum in Belfast. Coach Vaughan and I were reenacting the infamous scene from the http://www.gocolgateraiders.com/html_emails/20180116_142625_540865233.html?elinkdata=@ELINKDATA@&utm_medium=sidearm-email&utm_sou… 2/4 2/1/2018 CAC Newsletter - 1.16.18 movie Titanic. Many thanks to Beth Wood Amir '00, assistant director with Alumni Relations, for taking this photo.

Photo 2: It was a "full and loud" house on Cotterell Court Jan. 11 for our women's basketball game versus Boston U. We had over 1,300 very active children and their teachers cheering for the Raiders!

Photo 3: Prior to break, Dean of College Paul McLoughlin II and Chartwells hosted a "Champions" dinner for ALL of our students in honor of winning the men's soccer and football Patriot League Championships. It was a special treat having the band in attendance playing the fight song and other popular tunes. I took this photo of Dean McLoughlin speaking to a very happy and hungry crowd.

Photo 4: At the "Champions" dinner - Jovaun Woolford '19 (football) enjoying a full plate (I'm sure one of many) of shrimp, macaroni & cheese, corn, ribs and chicken. I'm hoping he has another plate filled with fruits and vegetables.
