The Late Triassic Thecodontosaurus antiquus occupies a basal position within Sauropodomorpha, being a key taxon for documenting how those morphofunctional transitions occurred. Here, we redescribe the braincase osteology and reconstruct the neuroanatomy of Thecodontosaurus, based on computed tomography data. The braincase of Thecodontosaurus shares the presence of medial basioccipital components of the basal tubera and a U-shaped basioccipital–parabasisphenoid suture with other basal sauropodomorphs and shows a distinct combination of characters: a straight outline of the braincase floor, an undivided metotic foramen, an unossified gap, large floccular fossae, basipterygoid processes perpendicular to the cultriform process in lateral view and a rhomboid foramen magnum. We reinterpret these braincase features in the light of new discoveries in dinosaur anatomy. Our endocranial reconstruction reveals important aspects of the palaeobiology of Thecodontosaurus, supporting a bipedal stance and cursorial habits, with adaptations to retain a steady head and gaze while moving. -

[email protected], [email protected], [email protected] RESUMO – Pela primeira vez, elementos pós-cranianos de Exaeretodon riograndensis, um cinodonte traversodontídeo da Cenozona de Rhynchosauria da Formação Santa Maria, Neotriássico do sul do Brasil, são descritos e comparados com E. frenguellii e outros cinodontes não-mamalianos. O material inclui parte da coluna vertebral, radio, ulna e elementos da cintura pélvica. As diferenças mais significativas em relação a E. frenguellii estão na morfologia e nas dimensões do arco neural do atlas, na presença de intercentros em vértebras cervicais posteriores ao áxis e na ausência da dilatação do ápice do espinho neural das vértebras truncais. A morfologia da região sacral da coluna, do rádio, da ulna e da cintura pélvica são concordantes com o observado em E. frenguellii. A comparação com outros táxons de cinodontes não-mamalianos permite a observação da nítida evolução em mosaico do esqueleto pós-craniano destes animais: E. riograndensis mostra alguns caracteres similares a outros Cynognathia (grupo ao qual pertence), enquanto outros são mais próximos aos observados em alguns Probainognathia (incluindo mamíferos), como a natureza mais avançada do complexo atlas-áxis. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SANTA MARIA CENTRO DE CIÊNCIAS NATURAIS E EXATAS PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM GEOGRAFIA OBSERVATÓRIO COVID-19 (UFSM) NOTA TÉCNICA N° 001/2020 AVALIAÇÃO ENTRE OS MAPAS DE SUSPEITOS (31/03/2020 E 14/04/2020) DE COVID-19 NA ÁREA URBANA DE SANTA MARIA (N = 15) Observatório de dados da COVID-19 Núcleo de Pesquisa em Geografia da Saúde – NePeGS Maurício Rizzatti – Doutorando em Geografia/UFSM De acordo com os Dados de Notificações da Vigilância Epidemiológica de Santa Maria, no dia 31 de março de 20201, Santa Maria contava com 8 casos confirmados, 35 descartados e 450 suspeitos. Destes, 409 possuem residência fixa na área urbana e 14 na zona rural de Santa Maria. O restante (27) residem em outros municípios e por isso não foram espacializados no mapa. No dia 14 de abril de 20202, segundo os Dados de Notificações da Vigilância Epidemiológica de Santa Maria, o município contava com 15 casos confirmados, 58 descartados e 559 suspeitos, 20 destes residindo na área rural do município. Da totalidade de suspeitos, dois (2) não foi possível espacializar pela inconsistência do endereço. Os 15 casos confirmados que residem em Santa Maria estão localizados nos seguintes bairros: Camobi (3), Centro (3), Pé-de-Plátano (2), Duque de Caxias, Juscelino Kubitscheck, Lorenzi, Nossa Senhora das Dores, Nossa Senhora de Lourdes, Nossa Senhora do Rosário e Nonoai com um caso confirmado cada. Ao realizar uma comparação entre o número de suspeitos do dia 31 de março com o dia 14 de abril de 2020, conforme exposto na tabela 1, percebemos que diversos bairros tiveram um aumento de suspeitos de COVID-19, como o bairro São José, localizado na região Centro-Leste de Santa Maria, com um elevação de 7 casos em 15 dias, apresentando uma taxa de elevação de 50%. -

We organize these tetrapod fossils into five, time-successive biostratigraphic assemblages (in ascending order, Owl Rock, Rock Point, Dinosaur Canyon, Whitmore Point and Kayenta) that we assign to the (ascending order) Revueltian, Apachean, Wassonian and Dawan land-vertebrate faunachrons (LVF). In doing so, we redefine the Wassonian and the Dawan LVFs. The Apachean–Wassonian boundary approximates the Triassic–Jurassic boundary. This tetrapod biostratigraphy and biochronology of the Triassic–Jurassic transition on the southern Colorado Plateau confirms that crurotarsan extinction closely corresponds to the end of the Triassic, and that a dramatic increase in dinosaur diversity, abundance and body size preceded the end of the Triassic. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Near, and Jakob Vinther ABSTRACT Dating the tree of life is a core endeavor in evolutionary biology. Rates of evolution are fundamental to nearly every evolutionary model and process. Rates need dates. There is much debate on the most appropriate and reasonable ways in which to date the tree of life, and recent work has highlighted some confusions and complexities that can be avoided. Whether phylogenetic trees are dated after they have been estab- lished, or as part of the process of tree finding, practitioners need to know which cali- brations to use. We emphasize the importance of identifying crown (not stem) fossils, levels of confidence in their attribution to the crown, current chronostratigraphic preci- sion, the primacy of the host geological formation and asymmetric confidence intervals. Here we present calibrations for 88 key nodes across the phylogeny of animals, rang- ing from the root of Metazoa to the last common ancestor of Homo sapiens. Close attention to detail is constantly required: for example, the classic bird-mammal date (base of crown Amniota) has often been given as 310-315 Ma; the 2014 international time scale indicates a minimum age of 318 Ma. A Theropod Tooth from the Late Triassic of Southern Africa

It is compared to the Triassic thecodonts and carnivorous dinosaurs and its possible affinity is discussed. The tooth possibly belongs to a basal theropod and shows some features similar to the allosauroids. This tooth is of significance, as dinosaur remains except for some footprints and trackways, are poorly known in the Late Triassic horizons of southern Africa. The sauropodomorph biostratigraphy of the Elliot Formation of southern Africa: Tracking the evolution of Sauropodomorpha across the Triassic–Jurassic boundary. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 62 (3): 441–465. The latest Triassic is notable for coinciding with the dramatic decline of many previously dominant groups, followed by the rapid radiation of Dinosauria in the Early Jurassic. Among the most common terrestrial vertebrates from this time, sauropodomorph dinosaurs provide an important insight into the changing dynamics of the biota across the Triassic–Jurassic boundary. The Elliot Formation of South Africa and Lesotho preserves the richest assemblage of sauropodomorphs known from this age, and is a key index assemblage for biostratigraphic correlations with other simi- larly-aged global terrestrial deposits. Past assessments of Elliot Formation biostratigraphy were hampered by an overly simplistic biozonation scheme which divided it into a lower “Euskelosaurus” Range Zone and an upper Massospondylus Range Zone. Here we revise the zonation of the Elliot Formation by: (i) synthesizing the last three decades’ worth of fossil discoveries, taxonomic revision, and lithostratigraphic investigation; and (ii) systematically reappraising the strati- graphic provenance of important fossil locations. We then use our revised stratigraphic information in conjunction with phylogenetic character data to assess morphological disparity between Late Triassic and Early Jurassic sauropodomorph taxa. Our results demonstrate that the Early Jurassic upper Elliot Formation is considerably more taxonomically and morphologically diverse than previously thought. -
