THE SIGNAL HILL VIEW NOVEMBER 2018 9 In Our City Coyotes

e share our city with many predators including Wcoyotes. Coyotes are an important species in the ecosystem and usually can co-exist nicely with human development. Coyotes have a natural fear of humans and are not normally a danger to people unless they become habituated. It is important not to feed coyotes! If coyotes are regularly seen in your yard, they are probably finding a source of food there. To deter coyotes from taking up residence in and around your yard remove food sources such as fallen fruit or berries, birdseed, and dog feces. This goes for public parks as well! Scoop your poop!

If you notice aggressive coyote behaviour in city parks Photo by Ron Chiasson during denning season please report this behaviour to 311. If you encounter an aggressive coyote, do not turn or run away. Make yourself large by shouting and waving If you find an injured or orphaned wild bird or your arms overhead. 1 of 1 2017-12-30, 4:16 PM Get Out and Explore Alberta Top 6 Reasons to Hit the Slopes in Alberta this November ith so many ski resorts opening their hills well into WDecember, the resorts of the Canadian Rockies are always a bit ahead of the curve with their November start dates and there are definite advantages to hitting the slopes early. Here are the top six benefits of heading to the slopes during the month of November.

Get your ski legs back before the throngs arrive The first few days back on skis or strapped into a board are always a bit rough: your timing may be off, you may catch an edge or just cruise along looking awkward, uncomfortable and anything but smooth. Usually this results in a slow-mo bail on embarrassingly simple terrain with a chairlift full of hecklers present to witness your embarrassment– all while you shake your fist, swearing audibly that you are not a novice or first-timer. Why not get this embarrassment out of the way before the slopes get more traffic and your chances of running into someone you know increase? Get those awkward first runs in this month to ensure you look like a pro when you shred over the holidays.

Book what you want, when you want it The holiday season does get a little busier and, while the slopes remain relatively uncrowded, booking Banff & Lake Louise Tourism accommodation can become challenging. That condo with a loft and fireplace you’ve been dreaming of is accumulated quite enough to cover the glassy surfaces more likely to be available in November. Visiting early, – it’s when outdoor skating in Banff National Park is at before the holiday rush, will give you access to the widest its best! So if you need to take a day off the slopes, skate selection of accommodation at various price points – directly on the famous Lake Louise with a backdrop you call the shots and don’t have to settle for just what of glaciers, or in Banff hit up Vermillion Lakes for epic is available.
