Alpha is coming!

Questions you might have about ALPHA

What is this again? It’s a chance to explore questions of life and faith and grow in your relationship with God, whether it’s a “zero” or a “ten” right now. It meets 8 Friday nights plus one Saturday afternoon. We have dinner together, watch a video, and then discuss it in table groups of 10. 8 Fri. nights starts Sept. 21 plus Sat. Nov. 3 retreat.

Why are we doing it? Because while we’re renewing and updating our physical plant, we want to renew and update our spiritual lives so we can better move forward in our mission to bring the Good News of Jesus to our families, workplaces, and to the Levittown community and beyond.

Who’s it for? Everybody. Young or old. English or Spanish-speaking. Churchgoer or not. It’s for you.

How’s it going so far? Really good! Half of the hundred seats are already taken. We already have some volunteers to help greet, set-up, provide child care so young families can attend, and help with meals. You’re welcome to help!

How much does it cost? Nothing. Nada. Just your time.

What if I’m not sure? Come to the first night and try it; if it’s not for you don’t come back. Or, you can just observe by helping out and not participating—this time. Alpha will be back again in March! For info or pre-registration: www.stbernardchurch.org/alpha

Our new LIFT program (Let’s Inspire Faith in Teens) for High School students will begin with ALPHA, a food-movie-discussion series for teens.

Meets 8 Friday nights Sept. 21– Nov. 16, plus Sat. Nov. 3 for an Alpha retreat day. Contact Pat McDonough: [email protected]

LITURGICAL MINISTERS CORNER Spotlight on E.M.H.C.’s

My name is Jane Howard. In 1984 I was approached by Helena Lacey to become an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. I felt unworthy to accept that position. Yet, through prayer and religious training sessions, I was able to successfully prepare for this ministry. Throughout the last three decades I have served my parish by administering the healing body of Jesus in the form of the Holy Eucharist to those at mass, as well as to those who are homebound and infirmed. I have always considered assisting at mass to be in an esteemed honor and privilege, and in doing so it has aided me in furthering my devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist. I look forward to continuing to serve in this rewarding capacity for many years to come.
