Our View Let's hear cheer for Sunday beer

For the longest time if you've wanted to by an alcoholic beverage on a Sunday in Statesboro, you've been left with that want until Monday at the earliest. Recently, Georgia legislators blew the dust off of that old filing record that holds the law banning the sale of alcohol on Sunday. Yes, faithful patrons of liquor stores, or the occasional gas station venturer, beer and liquor could be soon sold on Sundays. No more buying in bulk on Saturday, no more going to Walmart and wanting that wine with steaks for that romantic night, and no more forgetting the beer on days like Super Bowl Sunday. For many, this could have its advantages. Now, of course religious voices out there may have something to say in opposition* but to each his (or her) own. Dear Dean, help me! Please help me fix my out-of-state tuition Dear Dean, I'm currently listed as an out-of-state student, and I don't think I can continue to pay the out-of-state tuition next year. I've lived here all year in an apartment off campus. Does that qualify me to get in-state tuition instead? In Financial Need

Dear In Financial Need, I understand your financial difficulties with regards to tuition. Money is tight and everyone has to save wherever possible. The rules regarding the status for in-state versus out- of-state tuition are not set at the University level. Most students, regardless of where they live the majority of the year, are claimed as dependents by their parents. Thus, their status is determined by Dr. Georj Lewis, where their parents live and file taxes. If your parents do not claim you, your eligibility is based on a few other factors such as income, length of time at your current residence, etc. If you believe you might qualify for in-state status, please contact The Registrar's Office at (912) 478-0283 or visit the residency website at http://students.gerogiasouthern.edu/ registrar/residency.htm. If you do not qualify, I would recommend contacting your Financial Aid counselor to discuss alternatives to helping you afford the out-of-state tuition. There may be some options available to you that you had not previously considered. As always, if there's anything else our office can help you with, please feel free to contact us at (912) 478-3326.
