The US and Russian initiative, which emerged from talks with a 17-nation group, foresees a rapid ceasefire on private visit in the almost five-year conflict, perhaps as early as next month. If the plan brings Bashar Al-Assad’s regime to the table with the armed opposition, it will allow Russian and US-led forces to focus their firepower on the Islamic State group. “In January we hope and expect to be at the table and to be able to implement a full ceasefire,” US Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters. “And that means all the bar- rel bombs will stop, all the bombing, all the shooting, all the attacks on either side.” The Security Council met Friday after the latest round of talks by the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), which had gathered in New York to renew its push for peace. Attention now turns to Moscow and Riyadh, as Russia pressures Assad’s regime to agree to a ceasefire and Saudi Arabia wrangles the opposition to form a negotiating team. The UN special envoy on the conflict, Staffan de Mistura, said he would send out invitations to talks in January. The United States and Arab allies remain convinced Assad must leave office as part of the process, but his allies Moscow and Tehran insist this is a decision for the Syrian people. The resolution does not touch on this vital issue. “Only a Syrian-led, inclusive dialogue can put an end to the untold suffering of the Syrian people,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the Security Council. Nevertheless, Kerry -who has “agreed to disagree” with Moscow on Assad’s fate - said the vote would act as a springboard for forging ahead with peace talks. • 121111-SEA-Class-Analysis-English
Preface The two practical and class characteristics distinguished the scientific philosophy of Karl Marx, the leader of world proletariat, from all other philosophies. This knowledge was not meant to only interpret the phenomena, but to change them; that is why any assessment of phenomena in light of this knowledge, has class characteristic and it believes nothing in the world is non-class. Revolution, which means the replacement of one class by the other, is not possible without practical actions. Also, a revolution can only triumph when its vanguard draws an accurate distinguishing line between the friend and the foe. This is only possible through a class analysis. In the absence of class analysis, triumph of the proletarian revolution will remain impossible. These classes consist of friends, foes and intermediary forces. Following a thorough assessment, communists expand the size of friendly forces, attract the intermediary forces, and isolate the enemy to the possible extent. Hence, for a practical action, there is need for thorough class analysis of the society where revolutionaries launch their revolution. This enables revolutionaries to tell who their class friends and enemies are; where to trigger revolution; and what stages the revolution is supposed to pass through. Afghanistan Revolutionary Organization (ARO), a Marxist organization, is committed to world proletarian revolution. It aims at successfully bringing about a revolution in Afghanistan as part of the world proletarian revolution based on scientific analysis of a given situation. To do so, ARO sees the urgent need to thoroughly analyze the overall status of classes in Afghan society. Without such an analysis, it is impractical to achieve revolutionary objectives.

SPEAKER 1: Please take your seats now, and join me in welcoming tonight's guests and director of the Institute of Politics, Mark D. Gearan. MARK GEARAN: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to tonight's forum. We have an extraordinary group of colleagues here to discuss campaign 2020. And it's about time we do that right here at the Institute of Politics. So we've put together a great panel of those-- some who have been former fellows here, and those who know politics well, Republicans and Democrats, strategists that will really animate tonight's discussion. We start with Robby Mook with Scott Jennings here. Scott is a former resident fellow, and Robby is a visiting fellow here. They both teamed up, and they teach a course here at the Kennedy School on their perspective from having run Hillary Clinton's campaign to a Republican strategist and close advisor to Majority Leader McConnell. Really provide a great perspective. Reggie Hubbard joins us here as a strategist, Democratic strategist and grassroots strategist with Move On, and having served in the Obama-Biden world, and Sanders. So we welcome you and Alice Stewart, who has long and deep experience in Republican politics, from Senator Santorum and Governor Romney and Michele Bachman and loads of good campaigns. And of course, many of them are known to you from their commentary on CNN as analysts. And the perfect person to moderate this is our own senior fellow here at the Institute of Politics, Dan Balz, who, of course, is the chief correspondent for the Washington Post, who has covered every campaign, presidential campaign for several, several cycles, and brings his deep experience to that.

Preparation for war is an expensive, burdensome business, yet there is one important part of it that costs little–study. However changed and strange the new conditions of war may be, not only generals, but politicians and ordinary citizens, may find there is much to be learned from the past that can be applied to the future and, in their search for it, that some campaigns have more than others foreshadowed the coming pattern of modern war.1 — Field Marshall Viscount William Slim.

What We Can Learn from Google’s Support for Hillary Clinton Google executives and employees bet heavily on a Clinton victory, hoping to extend the company’s influence on the Obama White House. They lost that bet, and are left scrambling to find an entrée to the Trump Administration. Google’s playbook with Clinton reveals how the company most likely will seek to influence the new administration. There already are signs of that influence: Joshua Wright, who co-wrote a Google-funded paper while on the faculty of George Mason University and currently works at Google’s main antitrust law firm, was named to the Trump transition team on competition issues. Alex Pollock, of the Google-funded R Street Institute, has also been named to oversee the transition at the FTC, which oversees Google's conduct. Introduction Google’s extraordinarily close relationship with President Obama’s administration led to a long list of policy victories of incalculable value to its business.1 An in-depth examination of the company’s efforts to extend that special relationship into the next administration, which it wrongly predicted would be led by Hillary Clinton, reveal what we might expect from Google for the incoming Trump administration. Google’s executives and employees employed a variety of strategies to elect Hillary Clinton and defeat Donald Trump. Google permeated Clinton’s sphere of influence on a broad scale, rivaling the influence it exerted over the Obama administration. A review found at least 57 people were affiliated with both Clinton—in her presidential campaign, in her State Department, at her family foundation—and with Google or related entities.
