I have had the benefit of reading the erudite judgment prepared by my Lord the Chief Justice. I am in agreement with the final order dismissing the petitions. Keeping in view, however, the issue in these matters which is indeed of great public importance having far- reaching consequences to one of the largest democracies of the world, I intend the consider it in detail. In these 11 petitions (9 by members of Lok Sabha and 2 by members of Rajya Sabha), the petitioners have challenged the proceedings initiated against them by Parliament, the reports submitted by the Committees constituted by Parliament holding them guilty of the charges levelled against them and notifications expelling them as members of Parliament. The 'unfortunate background' of the case has been dealt with by the learned Chief Justice and I do not intend to repeat it. Suffice it to say that it was alleged against the petitioners that they accepted money for tabling questions/raising issues in Parliament. Committees were appointed to inquire into the allegations and conduct of Hon'ble Members. The allegations were found to be correct and pursuant to the reports submitted by the Committees, the Members were expelled by Parliament. Those Members have challenged the impugned action of expulsion. The Court had been ably assisted by the learned counsel for the parties on the central question of Parliamentary privileges, the power of the House to deal with those privileges and the ambit and scope of judicial review in such matters.

    The Mosaic Hinton St Mary November 2020 The Yard (Alice Fox-Pitt) What a weird time we are in. Despite the global pandemic, horses need to be fed and worked so despite lockdown work had to continue at Woodlane Stables. Firstly we need to say a big thank you to the village for putting up with the constant stream of horses hacking round the village, we apologise for any inconvenience. Hinton St Mary is the perfect place to train horses and we feel very lucky. The yard used to be one of three dairies in the village but it was converted in 2004 and we moved the first horses in in 2005. We train horses owned by clients for William to compete. William also trains up and coming star riders from all over the world. This year we had a team from South Africa, the US, Japan, Germany, Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Newcastle. Jackie Potts is our head girl and this weird year was her 27th working with William. Obviously, the big disappointment for us was the postponement of the Olympics due to be held in Tokyo in August. William has been training hard on his star horse Little Fire, who is in the British squad of 12. It would be an incredible 6th Olympics should he make Team GB having competed in Atlanta, Athens, Beijing, London and Rio. It was a huge blow for our Japanese star Kazumo Tomoto. He has been here for three years training for a home games. His daughter and wife have stayed at home in Tokyo so it has been a huge sacrifice and commitment.

Villagers’ accounts of their lifestyle provide a snapshot in time and comparisons are briefly drawn with bygone days. Ordinary annual events and activities provide a perspective on community life. There are also reports on the special projects and events that contributed to the Millennium Year Celebrations. ABRISTENTONA TO IBBERTON One thousand years ago the Doomsday Book records the Saxon name of our settlement as Abristentona, and over the years the name gradually developed into Ibberton. The village nestles in the lee of Bulbarrow Hill and evolved according to prevailing circumstances. In the early days lack of understanding about the techniques of land clearance and drainage resulted in the dwellings and cultivated land being sited on the lower chalk slopes and green sand immedi- ately around and below the church where numerous springs provided water. Evidence of the early settlement is found in the terraced slopes on the hillside above Manor House Farm. A knowledge of drainage and land clearance enabled the community to develop the lower ground where the major part of the village is now sited. The village has had many owners, the most historically famous was probably Henry VIII’s wife Catherine Howard, although there is no evidence that she ever resided at the Manor House. In the nineteen seventies the last large landowner, the Pitt Rivers family, sold off much of the land and houses into private ownership, but prior to that the farms and cottages would have been leased from the Estate.
