Scott played 18 seasons and over 1,000 games in the National Hockey League for the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks. Niedermayer is a four-time Stanley Cup champion and played in five NHL All-Star Games. He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy in 2003–04 as the NHL's top defenceman and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2007 as the most valuable player of the playoffs. In 2017, Niedermayer was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history. As a junior, Niedermayer was a member of a Kamloops Blazers team that won two Western Hockey League championships and was voted the most valuable player of the 1992 Memorial Cup, leading the Blazers to the Canadian Hockey League championship. The third overall selection at the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey, Niedermayer played the majority of his professional career with the Devils before moving to Anaheim in 2005. Internationally, Niedermayer played with Team Canada on several occasions. He is a member of the Triple Gold Club, having won the Stanley Cup as well as a World Championship (2004) and Olympic gold medals (2002, 2010). Niedermayer also played for the Memorial Cup champions, and championship teams at the 1991 World Junior Championships and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, making him and Corey Perry the only players in history to have ever won each of the six major North American and international competitions available to players. Regarded as one of the greatest defencemen in NHL history, Niedermayer has earned numerous accolades throughout his career. He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November 2013. The New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks, and Kamloops Blazers have all retired his uniform number. Coach & Manager’s Meeting: Directly following the team banquet, coaches and managers are asked to attend a MANDATORY meeting to ensure everyone is aware of all pertinent information. The meeting will cover introductions, a review of rules and regulations by BC Hockey and any questions teams may have. • Turnbull Hockey Pool For
Turnbull Hockey Pool for Each year, Turnbull students participate in several fundraising initiatives, which we promote as a way to develop a sense of community, leadership and social responsibility within the students. Last year's grade 7 and 8 students put forth a great deal of effort campaigning friends and family members to join Turnbull's annual NHL hockey pool, raising a total of $1750 for a charity of their choice (the United Way). This year's group has decided to run the hockey pool for the benefit of Help Lesotho, an international development organization working in the AIDS-ravaged country of Lesotho in southern Africa. From www.helplesotho.org "Help Lesotho’s programs foster hope and motivation in those who are most in need: orphans, vulnerable children, at-risk youth and grandmothers. Our work targets root causes and community priorities, including literacy, youth leadership training, school twinning, child sponsorship and gender programming. Help Lesotho is an effective, sustainable organization that is working at the grass-roots level to support the next generation of leaders in Lesotho." Your participation in this year's NHL hockey pool is very much appreciated. We believe it will provide students and their friends and families an opportunity to have fun together while giving back to their community by raising awareness and funds for a great cause. Prizes: > Grand Prize awarded to contestant whose team accumulates the most points over the regular NHL season = 10" Samsung Galaxy Tablet > Monthly Prizes awarded to the contestants whose teams accumulate the most points over each designated period (see website) = Two Movie Passes How it Works: > Everyone in the community is welcome to join in on the fun.

  • There Is Nothing Like the Sweet Taste of Gold
Publisher: International Ice Hockey Federation, Editor-in-Chief: Jan-Ake Edvinsson Supervising Editor: Kimmo Leinonen Editor: Szymon Szemberg, Assistant Editor: Jenny Wiedeke June 2004 - Vol 8 - No 3 There is nothing like the sweet taste of gold Back in the April issue of this publication, I wrote that the 2004 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic had the potential to be the best tournament ever. It proved to be a correct assumption. 552,097 spectators in Prague and Ostrava made this a festival which we will never forget. RENÉ FASEL EDITORIAL ■■ For some years now we have been contemplating whether the record of 526,172 fans from Finland 1997 would ever be broken. And, finally, seven years later, the IIHF World Championship has a new attendance record. More than 25,000 spectators surpassed the previous mark. Our new record figure of 552,097 means that an ave- rage of almost 10,000 spectators (9,859 to be exact) attended the 56 games of the 68th IIHF World Championship. This is a remarkable number and a testimony to the passion for our game in the Czech Republic. This was the ninth time that an IIHF World Championship was hosted in Prague, which now defi- nitely deserves to be called the unofficial capital of the tournament. ■■ All this wouldn’t have been possible if not for the Sazka Arena, which must rank among the top three or four ice hockey venues in the world today. The 17,300 seat state-of-the-art arena was everything we were hoping for in terms of spectator comfort as well as facilitating the needs of teams and officials.
