FULL ASSURANCE – IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR RECEIVING OF ETERNAL LIFE, BUT IT HAS A GREAT DEAL TO DO WITH THE ENJOYMENT OF IT.

FULL ASSURANCE: Two Greek words put together (plEro-phoria) full or complete + assurance Examples: Luke 1:1 -most surely believed, Romans 4:21 -fully persuaded, Romans 14:5 -fully persuaded, 2 Timothy 4:5 -fulfill your ministry

It’s an amazing thing to find Christians who have a Bible-based assurance and eternal security!

o Hebrews -a kind of Conversion Table between the Old Covenant and New Covenant -different but related parameters o Christ is a High – ever lives, Priesthood is complete -He sits down, one-time sacrifice satisfies God forever

o Writer frustrated with these believers (end Chapter 5) – still immature -milk vs solid food

o Discernment – (Hebrews 5:14) comes from eating and digesting solid food.

o We need to make progress in the Christian life: Six Threshold truths –

o Incorrect application of Judaism in the OT – sin requires offering of a lamb … continual or once for all?

Sacerdotalism1 is the belief that are essential mediators between God and man. The word sacerdotal comes from the Latin word for “priest” and literally means “to make sacred.” Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican forms of worship are sacerdotal.

Many Christians believe they need to recommit themselves over and over after falling into sin. Do it all over again. Revival services to repeat something that happens once for all time

1 Sacerdotalism insulates people from God, erecting human barriers where the places none. The Scripture is clear that “there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). Biblically speaking, every believer is a priest “offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5).

Study – Hebrews 6

Hebrews 6: Notes 4 For it is impossible for those who were once All of these phrases used elsewhere describe enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and believers. have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to Those who are saved cannot be saved again. repentance, since they crucify again for themselves The finality of the sacrifice of Christ the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. It was sufficient for all sin for all people for all time. Draw me a picture… 7 For the earth which drinks in the rain that often A farmer deserves a crop for which he has laboured comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by -blessing from God whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; 8 but if it bears thorns and briars, it is rejected and Best way to keep down weeds is grow a good crop. near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned. A searing experience is needed to refocus us 9 But, beloved, we are confident of better things The solution is not to get saved again! concerning you, yes, things that accompany Go on with God salvation, though we speak in this manner. “Things that accompany salvation” 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and God remembers every detail of your work labor of love which you have shown toward His Your service to the saints is “toward His name” or, “as name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and unto ” do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same Show diligence in pursuing the full assurance of hope. diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those Warning! Don’t become sluggish! who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Faith = taking God at His word Patience/endurance = trusting the process The end goal? = to inherit the promises of God 19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both This hope anchors our soul inside the throne room of sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence heaven where God dwells. behind the veil, 20 where the forerunner has entered He is my life! for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever Because Jesus is already there as the forerunner we according to the order of Melchizedek. can have absolute confidence we will be there with Him since we are “in Christ”

The reason Christians produce a crop of thorns and briars is because they haven’t been sowing the Word of God in their hearts and minds!

The basis of our assurance is not our performance. The basis of our assurance is Gods performance in our hearts through His Word.

A full assurance of Hope! God will take us from where we are, to where He wants us to be!
