Saint Joseph’s University Recreation and Intramurals Indoor Soccer Rules www.sju.edu/recreation General Information Eligibility: 1. Each team captain must submit a completed Intramural Sports Roster with the required fee, to the Rec Office before the published date. All players must sign his/her name on the team roster/waiver. 2. Game time is forfeit time. Teams forfeiting will post a loss for that particular game and may be declared ineligible for the playoffs. Any team which forfeits twice will be banned from further competition in the league. 3. All participants must be a current student or faculty and staff member at Saint Joseph's University. 4. Participants can be on the roster of only one single sex team and only one co-rec team. 5. Teams may add new players to their roster prior to the mid-season point. 6. Players must participate in at least 2 games prior to the playoffs. 7. Only 2 Saint Joseph's University club soccer members are allowed on a team’s roster. All teams with a club player on the roster must compete in the “A” league. If a team if is found with more than two club players, a forfeit will be given for each game those players participated in. 8. Intercollegiate soccer players are not eligible for intramural participation. A team will receive a forfeit for any games where intercollegiate athletes are used. ** All players are required to present a valid Saint Joseph's University ID prior to every intramural contest. Those who fail to show their ID will not be allowed to participate. ** General Rules Players- Teams will play 5 v 5 with no goalkeeper. Teams may begin the game with a minimum of four (4) players. Co-Rec modification - At no time can the number of one sex exceed the number of the other by more than one. Example: 3 men and 2 women – legal / 3 women and 2 men – legal 4 women and 1 man – illegal Field- The field will be the length and width of a multipurpose room court. There will be a midfield line used for penalty shots. The curtains will be lowered to enclose the court. Keep hands off curtains; it creates a hazard to neighboring courts. Goals- Only shots that cross the goal line on the ground will be recorded as a goal. No shots may be in the air. Cones will be used to designate the goal line. Shots that hit the cone, yet leave the cone upright will be counted. Shot that hit the cone causing the cone to fall over will NOT be counted. Length of Game- The game will consist of two 20-minute halves with a running clock. The officials may stop the clock upon their discretion (injuries, retrieving balls, etc.) Half-time is five minutes. Starting the Game- Game time is forfeit time. Valid SJU ID's are required and IM eligibility policies apply. A coin toss will determine defense of goal and initial possession. The kickoff at the beginning of each half and after each goal must be backwards. The defense may not advance past ‘yellow line’ until the ball is touched. Substitutions- Free substitution rules will be in effect. Players must be off the field before their replacements enter. Equipment- Sneakers or all-purpose shoes must be worn, no spikes, or barefeet are permitted. Shinguards are highly recommended. Specific Rules FIFA rules will govern all situations unless otherwise noted. Out-of-Bounds- Any ball which goes out of bounds via the corner of the court will be put back in play by a free kick. A corner kick will result if the defensive team was the last to touch the ball, and a ‘6 yard kick’ will result if the offensive team was the last to touch the ball. Balls that travel directly behind the goal cones will be issued dead and a corner or ‘6 yard kick’ will be awarded. Play off side and end curtains is permitted. Kicks- All free kicks are indirect. A five yard restraining distance is in effect for the defensive team. Penalty Kick- A flagrant foul will result in an unimpeded free kick from the further foul line. Flagrant fouls include intentional striking, kicking, or tripping or intentional dangerous play, for example. Overtime – Regular season games that end in a tie shall remain that way. Playoff games that end in a tie will result in a 5 minute sudden death period. If the game is still tied after that, another 5 minute sudden death period will be used. A sudden death shootout (5 shots per team) of unimpeded penalty shots (from the further foul line) will be used if the game is still tied after the 2nd sudden death period. • There will be NO offside. • No slide tackling. • Persistent fouling or a flagrant foul by an individual will result in a warning and/or ejection. Court 4 Specifications- A drop kick will be used if ball gets stuck under bench. The ball may be played off the wall or curtains, however the ball may not be kicked above the cage on the wall. Scoreboard- You cannot hit the scoreboard. Balls that hit the scoreboard will be issued dead and a corner or ‘6 yard kick’ will be awarded. .
