BRINGING HEALTHCARE NOVEMBER 2017 INTO THE LIMELIGHT LIW is bringing healthcare into the limelight. New series On Call: Health + Medicine is focused on examining state-of- the-art health care solutions, medical advances and promising research. Hosted by PBS NewsHour Weekend anchor , On Call invites leading physicians and scientists from NewYork-Presbyterian Wand other tri-state-area hospitals to discuss new research and cutting-edge treatment of stroke, heart disease, mental health, and more. Each episode of this five-part series examines issues shaping the future of healthcare, showcases visionary ideas and innovation models, and discusses steps that individuals and communities can take to further their own health.

Did you know that according to the American Stroke Association, strokes are the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States? On Call tackles the disease, which affects the arteries leading to and within the brain, in its first episode. Dr. Herbert Pardes, Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at NewYork-Presbyterian, Dr. Kevin Sheth, Chief of the Division of Neurocritical Care and Emergency Neurology and Associate Chair of Research at Yale School of Medicine, and Dr. Matthew Fink, Neurologist- in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center join On Call to discuss the significant strides in stroke treatment and prevention, and how the right care—administered right away—can save lives.

Upcoming episodes target mental health disorders in adolescents and the importance of early diagnosis and intervention; what can be done to prevent heart disease, which affects more than 85 million Americans; how to overcome the stigma of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and available therapies for treatment; and genomic medicine, an emerging medical field that utilizes information form an individual’s DNA as part of their clinical care, enabling higher levels of SERIES PREMIERES THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 2 AT 8:30PM precision for individualized diagnosis and treatment.
