For 35 years, GSM has worked with the Dallas County Community College District. The partnership began with Eastfield College in 1983 and provides scholarships through a college credit program for local students to learn the craft of Musical Theatre. Since 1998 GSM has also had an ongoing partnership with Tarleton State University’s Theatre Intern Program. GSM is proud of the continuing collabora- tion with Dallas Young Artists to provide an annual summer camp which culminates with a superb production. This summer we will present Beauty and the Beast at the Granville Arts Center, June 29th through July 2nd. GSM’s mission is to create a major summer musical theatre program which allows professional artists through Actor's Equity Association to work with performers of all ages as part of a theatre training and semi-professional production company. For 35 Seasons GSM has worked with hundreds of incredibly talented performers! We are proud to report that we currently have GSM Alumni appearing in Broadway shows and touring with National Broadway companies. There are so many people we want to thank including the GSM Board Members, the GSM Guild and our faithful and dedicated patrons, donors and season ticket holders. I want to send a special “Thank You” to the TREMENDOUS cast, crew, artistic team, staff and orchestra of The Producers. It has been a joy creating this show with the amazing Direction of Michael Serrecchia; Set Design by Rodney Dobbs; Music Direc- tion by Jeff Crouse; Props Direction by Jo Anne Hull assisted by Karla Pa- jot; Technical Direction by Hank Baldree; Costumes by Michael Robinson; Sound by Tyler Payne; Choreography by Megan Kelly Bates; and Lighting Design by Susan A. Joe has been assisted with set construction by Tommy Nguyen and students from the Sachse High School Tech Classes. GSM is also thrilled to have Rachel DuPree return as Stage Manager with Katie Ussery as Assistant Stage Manager. Special accolades to Brenda Rozinsky, my awesome assistant, who has done an incredible job handling the business operations, special grants, camp and college registration, in addition to creating this wonderful souvenir program. Over 100 people have worked on stage and behind the scenes to bring you this spectacular production of The Producers! • Shakespeare on Audio (CD, Vinyl & Cassette)
Shakespeare on Audio (CD, Vinyl & Cassette) Historical Recordings & Anthologies Shakespeare recordings have been in evidence from the earliest days of the wax cylinder, through the short-playing 78 rpm shellac discs of the 1930s and the long-playing 33 1/3 rpm vinyl discs (LPs) and reel-to-reel tapes of the 1950s, to the widely available audio cassettes, compact discs (CDs), videotapes, and digital recordings of the present. Before Orson Welles’s innovative Mercury Text Records series issued by Columbia Records in 1938, no one had attempted to record full-length audio versions of Shakespeare. Previously only isolated passages from the plays had been available, performed by fabled stage actors such as E.H. Sothern and Julia Marlowe, Herbert Beerbohm-Tree, Ellen Terry and a few others and recorded between 1890 and the First World War. Between the wars, Hamlet’s “O what a rogue and peasant slave…” and “How all occasions do inform…” and Macbeth’s “Is this a dagger…?” were recorded on 78s by such stars as Henry Ainley and John Barrymore, and included with other famous soliloquies and educational intent on Johnston Forbes-Robertson’s two-disc How to Speak Shakespeare (Columbia, 1928). These recordings existed almost entirely for the purpose of preserving a famous actor’s reading of a set speech. The custom of recording speeches and brief duologues by great actors, although partly a matter of technology and packaging (a speech can fill one side of a 78 rpm disk), reflects a cultural reality as well, an attitude toward Shakespeare that sees his plays as predominantly a collection of purple passages and wise saws.
