However, judging the world development tend comprehensively, economic globalization is still an irreversible trend of the times. As one of the important pillars of modern service industry, convention and exhibition industry is gradually expanding its global market scale. According to Technavio’s forecast, the global market size of convention and exhibition industry in 2018 is USD 35,520,000,000, with an annual compound growth rate of 5.19%. China’s economy continues to maintain medium-to-high speed of growth in the difficult situation at home and abroad. The policy environment of the exhibition industry has been continuously optimized, and the institutional norms have been improved. The development of open economy with the emphasis on “The Belt and Road” construction has been further promoted. The first China International Import Expo has created numerous international exposition records, and new formats and new models are constantly emerging. China’s exhibition industry has also made brilliant achievements. Governments at all levels attach more importance to exhibition work. Enterprises’ enthusiasm for participating in the exhibition has been constantly improved. With more frequent exchanges at home and abroad, the exhibition industry has become an important platform for building a modern market system and an open economic system. In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping’s speech at the Conference on the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up, constantly expand foreign trade and develop new formats and models of trade; provide authoritative information resources for the exhibition industry and provide reference for relevant government departments to improve the level of exhibition management and service and formulate policies and development plans for the exhibition industry, Department of Trade and Investment Promotion of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) has entrusted Academy of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade to prepare Annual Report on China’s Exhibition Industry (2018) (hereinafter referred to as Report). Report is published during the China Expo Forum for International Cooperation (CEFCO) which is held every year. Since 2005, 14 editions have been published and have exerted a certain influence on the exhibition industry at home and abroad, with a certain function of professional evaluation and guiding role in industry development. Report (2018) still includes retrospect and prospect of China’s exhibition industry, development 中国展览经济发展报告(2018) of domestic and overseas exhibitions, development of China’s exhibition halls and so on; and will describe the fi rst China International Import Expo, International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 Beijing China, some large exhibitions and fairs co-sponsored by provinces and ministries, cases of exhibition economic development in Hainan Province and other hot topics in the form of chronicle of events according to the new development trend of China’s exhibition industry to comprehensively, accurately and timely refl ect the status of China’s exhibitions (expositions). Several research methods including data analysis, comparative analysis and literature analysis were used in the process of preparing the report to summarize and extract valuable data and information and form conclusions so as to reveal the inherent quantitative relationship, law and development trend of various exhibition indicators. Data analysis. China’s exhibition data are mainly collected and provided by CCPIT Information Center. The data come from member units of CCPIT System and domestic public media (network and paper media). The report is based on 3,793 economic and trade exhibition data including area. When the number of exhibitions is counted, if many similar industry exhibitions held by the same exhibition organizer at the same time and same place are clearly distinguished by the exhibition organizer, they shall be counted separately in the report; if they are not clearly distinguished, they shall be counted together. The overseas exhibition data of China are based on 1,672 overseas exhibition projects implemented by each exhibition organizer of the exhibition approval management system of CCPIT. As of Nov. 13, 2018, the data of overseas exhibitions (expositions) that are under review and have been reviewed have been conducted for statistical analysis. Relevant data on China’s exhibition halls come from China exhibition information database of CCPIT Information Center and China International Exhibition Center Group Corporation (CIEC). Referring to the criteria of Union of International Fairs (UFI) for the market statistics of exhibition halls, 292 exhibition halls and non-professional exhibition halls in 154 cities (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) were surveyed, from which 164 professional exhibition halls with indoor rentable area greater than or equal to 5,000 square meters where more than 2 economic and trade exhibitions were held in 2018 were selected for statistics and analysis. Comparative analysis. Regarding the domestic exhibition development in China, Report analyzes the changes of the number and area of exhibitions in 2018 compared with 2017 and compares them from four aspects: regional distribution, scale distribution, industry distribution and exhibition organizers; with regard to the development of China’s overseas exhibitions, Report analyzes the overall changes of the number of overseas exhibitions (expositions) that have been implemented, exhibition area and number of enterprises participating in the exhibition in 2018 compared with 2017 and compares them from seven aspects: general situation, exhibition form, regional distribution, important markets, industrial distribution, exhibition organizers and participation in and holding of exhibitions of CCPIT; in terms of development of China’s exhibition hall, Report analyzes the changes of the number and area of exhibition halls in 2018 compared with 2017 and compares them from geographical and scale distribution, market and operation to generalize the changing rules of each index, which truly refl ect the development trend of China’s exhibition industry in 2018. Literature analysis. Through National Library, CNKI and Wanfang Database, and International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE), Union of International Fairs (UFI), International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) and Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) and other authoritative professional institutions, the relevant information and materials as well as research reports on domestic and foreign exhibitions have been widely collected for in-depth analysis and research to summarize the characteristics of the development of China’s exhibition industry in 2018 and predict the development trajectory and trend of China’s exhibition industry in 2019 and even in the future, as well as put forward targeted, practical and effective policy recommendations based on the actual work of China’s exhibition (exposition). 中国展览经济发展报告(2018) Contents PART I Overview of the Development of China's Exhibition Industry Chapter I Review and Prospect of China’s Exhibition Industry Development…………………………………187 Chapter II Overview of China’s
