Weddings Welcome 3 This magnificent Tudor-Jacobean country house dates back to the 1500s and is steeped in history and grandeur. It is described as the Hampton Court of the North as it too has its Royal connections, as the birthplace of the notorious Lord Darnley, the infamous husband of Mary Queen of Scots. The house is set within 1500 acres of a Capability Brown landscape of stunning rolling parkland, formal gardens and intimate lakesides. 4 5 We are delighted to offer within the heart of the house three exquisite rooms to suit either a large or more intimate celebration; the Great Hall, the Dining Room or the Still Room. We can ensure grandeur, intimacy and something unique. The couple and guests have exclusive use of the main central courtyard and grand entrance into the house as well as the South Terrace overlooking the park, all of which provide stunning backdrops for unique photo opportunities. The house is available for ceremonies every day of the week throughout the year and only one booking is taken per day. Your Ceremony In the 16th century the Great Hall 6 7 was used for feasting and celebrations The and so what could be more fitting than to hold your ceremony or wedding breakfast in this magnificent room. Great Hall It comfortably accommodates up to one hundred guests for both ceremony and wedding breakfast. The Great Hall leads straight from the central courtyard to create an immediate wow factor and the ‘secret door’ leads to the South Terrace which offers the perfect spot for a drinks reception and photographs. 10 The The 11 Dining Room Still Room This is a lovely quirky room in one of the oldest parts of the house. Originally the room was used to make preserves and beverages in and today displays a huge range of Leeds creamware ceramics. For those couples wanting something a little different this is the ideal location for a wedding party of up to 40 guests or for a wedding breakfast of up to 20. The Dining Room leads from the Great Hall and is the perfect location for an intimate ceremony for up to forty guests or thirty seated to dine. Lined in oak panelling it is a truly majestic room overlooked by the spectacular heraldic overmantel bearing the arms of Mary Queen of Scots. The West Lawn adjacent to the house makes 12 13 a great location for a marquee to host your party. The We can put you in touch with event companies who will co-ordinate this for you. Just a short walk from the house is the Party Walled Garden Marquee set within the historic walled garden and home to five National Plant Collections as well as an extensive Rose Garden and magnificent herbaceous borders. It is a beautiful location for a wedding breakfast and party for up to 160 guests. The marquee is fully lined, has ceiling chandeliers and accent lighting, solid floors, an indoor cloakroom and catering facilities.
