Densification of Dzivarasekwa Extension A collaboration between Slum Dwellers International and Dialogue on Shelter Jan - Feb 2012 Background This report is intended to document and share aspects of a currently Contents + ongoing collaborative project between Slum Dwellers Interntional (SDI) and Introduction Greenfield Housing Problem Dialogue on Shelter (DOS). Getting Started The focus of this project was to use the slum upgradement, of Dzivarasekwa Extension, as an opportunity to develop new affrodable housing models Consultation Begins that could sustainably increase the density than the status-quo. For this, an architect from SDI, Greg Bachmayer, worked in the offices of DOS Design Development between 15 January and 16 February 2012, in Harare, Zimbabwe. Cramped, dark, and in need of upgrades, the 900 square foot two-bedroom house in Marin County was nestled against the foot of Mount Tamalpais in a heavily wooded neighborhood of modest post-war houses. Second growth redwoods on the sloping hillside, site coverage restrictions, and the lot size restricted the buildable area for most conventional expansion possibilities. Outdoor living area was limited to a small concrete patio. A dark gravel yard offered the only useable area – inhospitable for commonly used landscaping materials. The design challenge. Double the house size, re-configure the floor plan for a 3-bedroom residence with home office, and expand living areas. Connect interior spaces with the exterior. Bring plenty of light into the house. Solve drainage problems that had plagued the low lying floor level. Open up tree canopy for light and create outdoor living areas with fresh ideas for the suburban backyard. And do it all on a modest budget. The plan. Automated office blood pressure (AOBP) can simplify the measurement process, reducing human error and minimizing the white-coat effect in the unattended mode. The aim of this study was to compare AOBP, both unattended and nurse attended, with conventional office and out-of-office blood pressure measurement techniques. Four different methods of blood pressure measurement were performed in a cohort of hypertensive patients: conventional office blood pressure (OBP), unattended automated office blood pressure (uAOBP), nurse attended automated office blood pressure (nAOBP), and home blood pressure monitoring (HBPM). uAOBP and nAOBP were conducted with the same rigorous standardized procedure. We enrolled 118 consecutive patients. nAOBP values were slightly higher than uAOBP ones (respectively 132.8/73.3 ± 19.4/12.9 and 129.2/71.1 ± 19.0/12.3 mmHg), even if the difference was influenced by order of execution of AOBP measurement. nAOBP was significantly lower than HBPM and OBP (mean values 135.2/80.9 ± 16.6/8.1 and 140.9/84.6 ± 18.7/10.8 mmHg, respectively). AOBP, either attended or unattended, provides lower values than conventional OBP. uAOBP and nAOBP values showed small differences, even if they are not completely interchangeable.

Blakesley Hall Family Social Story A Tour of This guide tells me all about the historic house called Blakesley Hall. If I would like to know more about the Visitor Centre and Gardens at Blakesley Hall, as well as the people who work there, I can use the separate guide entitled ‘My Visit to Blakesley Hall’. This is a photo of Blakesley Hall. This is the main entrance to Blakesley Hall. An Enabler will let me in here so I can start looking around. Once I have gone through the front door I will arrive in the Cross Passage, a big corridor which leads me to several rooms. If I walk halfway down the Cross Passage and turn left. I will be in the Great Hall, on the ground floor. This is the Great Hall. The Great Hall would have been used for all sorts of things in Tudor times, but today it is set for dinner. I can touch the objects on the table in the Great Hall, and an Enabler or a Volunteer will be able to tell me what they were all used for. At the far end of the Great Hall I might go in two rooms: The Great Parlour and the Little Parlour. This is the Great Parlour. The Great Parlour is where people had dinner parties. There is lots of pretend food on the table to show me what it would have looked like. This is the Little Parlour, which is also at the far end of the Great Hall. The Little Parlour is where the women of the household might have spent their time.
