  • Tigers Snap First Losing Streak with Back-To-Back Wins
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Mon Oct 4 19:16:48 2021 / +0000 GMT Tigers snap first losing streak with back-to-back wins By Jake Courtepatte If the mark of a good team is the ability to rebound from adversity, the Junior A Aurora Tigers are doing just fine. An atrocious 6 ? 0 losing effort at the hands of the rival Newmarket Hurricanes on Thursday spelled the first two-game losing streak of the season for the Tigers, before a pair of big wins over the weekend put away any doubt that the cats are not the kings of the OJHL's North division. Fresh off a surprise 4 ? 2 loss at the hands of the Lindsay Muskies, the third edition of the 2018-19 Battle of Yonge Street Thursday saw Newmarket jump out to a 5 ? 0 lead through forty minutes, chasing Jack Irvine from the game after making 18 stops on 23 shots. Christian Filippetti saw little action between the Tigers' cage in the third period, stopping four of the five shots he faced, but Hurricanes keeper Mitchell Weeks skated off with a 20-save shutout. The Tigers returned to the den on Friday in a key matchup with the Markham Royals, turning it around with a 6 ? 3 win to put a nine-point game between themselves and their division rivals. Down 3 ? 2 heading into the third period, the Tigers exploded for four straight goals in the final twenty minutes. Tyler Davis led the way with a three-point performance, while Kyle Bollers potted a pair of goals, and Irvine bounced back between the pipes to secure his sixth win of the season.

  • Tigers Split Home-And-Home with Spirit
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Fri Oct 1 21:17:07 2021 / +0000 GMT Tigers split home-and-home with Spirit By Jake Courtepatte A four-point performance over the weekend has the Junior A Aurora Tigers pulling away from the competition in the OJHL's North division. A familiar name found the scoresheet three times in the Tigers' 4 ? 1 win over the struggling Stouffville Spirit on Thursday night, with Joseph Mizzi notching a natural hat trick before the end of the second period. Jack Varga notched the game's opener. Jack Irvine was back between the pipes at home at the Aurora Community Centre the following night after blocking 27 shots, showing some signs of fatigue in the Spirit's 4 ? 3 win. Inserted into the game after a slow start from Christian Filippetti, Irvine and the Tigers' fell behind 3 ? 1 midway through the second period on a bank from in close. Jacob Ball pulled the Tigers back within one on a second rebound early in the third period, though Irvine was fooled just minutes later on a long wrist shot that proved to be the game winner. Captain Steven MacLean capped off the scoring in the game's dying minutes. Sunday's road matchup had the Tigers meeting the new-look Brantford 99ers for the first time, moving to Brantford from their home in Milton as the Icehawks in the offseason. Peppering the Brantford goal with 24 shots in the first period, Aurora took a 3 ? 0 lead before the first buzzer thanks to Michael Palandra, MacKenzie Dobson, and a powerplay marker from Mizzi.

  • Tigers Pass Panthers in OJHL Standings
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Mon Oct 4 15:20:18 2021 / +0000 GMT Tigers pass Panthers in OJHL standings By Jake Courtepatte As the rebuild season winds down for the Aurora Tigers, the club can perhaps take solace in a strong finish. With a win, a loss, and a tie for the Junior A Tigers over the weekend, they have picked up five points in their last five games, moving them ahead of the Pickering Panthers in the Northeast Conference of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Their eighth win of the season came at the hands of the Lindsay Muskies on Friday, using an early lead to hang on to a 4 ? 3 score. Both Brandon MacKinnon and Mel Melconian scored late in the first to give the Tigers a 2 ? 0 lead, cut in half by a shorthanded Lindsay goal with one second remaining in the period. Tyler Davis scored the only goal of the second period to restore the two-goal lead, while Eric Holland notched a third period marker that would eventually be the game winner. The Whitby Fury came to the Aurora Community Centre on Saturday and absolutely drilled goalie Jake Sabourin with shots, pouring a total of 64 on net in a 3 ? 1 win. Sabourin was handed third star honours for his 61-save performance, while Holland scored the only Aurora goal, joining Melconian as the only Tigers to pass the 20-goal plateau this season. The Tigers then managed their first point of the year against their crosstown rivals, the Newmarket Hurricanes, in a 4 ? 4 tie on Sunday.
