[generalNote]: Hanes gweinyddol / Braslun bywgraffyddol | Administrative history | Biographical sketch Nodyn | Note Derry Ormond is in the parish of Betws Bledrws, Cardiganshire. Thomas Lloyd, a younger son of David Lloyd of Crynfryn, is the earliest recorded occupier. He married Margaret, daughter of Thomas ab Owain of Bronwydd. Derry Ormond remained in the hands of the Lloyd family until it was sold by James Lloyd of Bronwydd for #700 in 1760 to David Jones, a cattle dealer and drover. Under David Jones, Derry Ormond became a centre of Methodism, where William Williams ('Pantycelyn', 1717-1791) frequently preached. David Jones, sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1773, died heavily indebted in 1775, and the estate was sold by his creditors in 1783 for #1,575 to a John Lewis on behalf of John Jones (b. c. 1745), a London surgeon-apothecary. He bought further freeholds in Cardiganshire, including the Glanfread estate for #7050 from Lord Cawdor in 1803, demolished the old Derry Ormond and built a new house. He was succeeded by his son, Thomas John Jones (1745-1817), who was a founding partner of Banc y Llong (1806-1814) at Aberystwyth. R. Cockerell, and demolished his father's house. In 1828 John Jones married Charlotte Elizabeth Jesson of Hill Park, Kent, and a son, John Inglis Jones (1829-1879) was born a year later. He purchased part of the Foelallt estate in Llanddewibrefi, Cariganshire, for #15000 in 1850 and the Maesycrugiau estate in Carmarthenshire, for #6600 in 1879. John Inglis Jones was succeeded by his son, Wilmot Jones, who married Winifred, the daughter of Alfred Montalto. The family changed its name to Inglis-Jones in 1898. After Wilmot Inglis-Jones died in 1949, the mansion was sold for #3,000 in 1950, and demolished in 1953.     NEWS RELEASE Issued by the Telephone 02920 395031 Boundary Commission for Wales Caradog House Fax 02920 395250 1-6 St Andrews Place Cardiff CF10 3BE Date 25 August 2004 FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCIES IN THE PRESERVED COUNTY OF DYFED The Commission propose to make no change to their provisional recommendations for five constituencies in the preserved county of Dyfed. 1. Provisional recommendations in respect of Dyfed were published on 5 January 2004. The Commission received eleven representations, five of which were in support of their provisional recommendations. Three of the representations objected to the inclusion of the whole of the Cynwyl Elfed electoral division within the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency, one objected to the name of the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency and one suggested the existing arrangements for the area be retained. 2. The Commission noted that, having received no representation of the kind mentioned in section 6 (2) of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986, there was no statutory requirement to hold a local inquiry. The Commission further decided that in all the circumstances they would not exercise their discretion under section 6 (1) to hold an inquiry. Final recommendations 3. The main objection to the provisional recommendations was in respect of the inclusion of the Cynwyl Elfed electoral division in the Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire constituency. It was argued that the division should be included in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr on the grounds that the majority of the electorate in the division fell within that constituency and that inclusion in Carmarthen East and Dinefwr rather than Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire would reduce the disparity between the electorates of the two constituencies and would bring them closer to the electoral quota.

Election results from the immediate post-reorganisation period were painstakingly collected by Alan Willis largely, although not exclusively, from local newspaper reports. From the mid- 1980s onwards the results have been obtained from each local authority by the Elections Centre. The data are stored in a database designed by Lawrence Ware and maintained by Brian Cheal and others at Plymouth University. Despite our best efforts some information remains elusive whilst we accept that some errors are likely to remain. Notice of any mistakes should be sent to [email protected]. The results sequence can be kept up to date by purchasing copies of the annual Local Elections Handbook, details of which can be obtained by contacting the email address above. Front cover: the graph shows the distribution of percentage vote shares over the period covered by the results. The lines reflect the colours traditionally used by the three main parties. The grey line is the share obtained by Independent candidates while the purple line groups together the vote shares for all other parties. Rear cover: the top graph shows the percentage share of council seats for the main parties as well as those won by Independents and other parties. The lines take account of any by- election changes (but not those resulting from elected councillors switching party allegiance) as well as the transfers of seats during the main round of local election.

Cockerell. The essential features of the picturesque landscaping in the park were also designed by Cockerell, including three lakes, associated cascades and a magnificent bridge. Cockerell cleverly manipulated the water so as to maximise the picturesque views within the park and from the house. Derry Ormond Tower is an important eye-catcher associated with the site and is a prominent landmark in the area. Type of site Park; garden; walled kitchen garden; eye-catcher Main phases of construction 1821 – 24; 1824 – 27; 1888 - 1905 Site description Derry Ormond was a substantial mansion, situated on substantial garden terracing on a south-facing slope on the west flank of the Dulas valley, just above the hamlet of Betws Bledrws. From the house there was a fine view out over its park and the valley, with the Derry Ormond Tower crowning the hilltop to the south. The house was demolished in 1953. The house, described by Samuel Lewis in 1833 as an ‘elegant modern mansion’, was a two-storey neo-classical villa, with sash windows and hipped slate roofs.
