ISSN 0729-3135 May 1999 Coastal Land and Groundwater for Horticulture from Gingin to Augusta Dennis van Gool and Werner Runge Resource Management Technical Report No. 188 LAND AND GROUNDWATER FOR HORTICULTURE Information for Readers and Contributors Scientists who wish to publish the results of their investigations have access to a large number of journals. However, for a variety of reasons the editors of most of these journals are unwilling to accept articles that are lengthy or contain information that is preliminary in nature. Nevertheless, much material of this type is of interest and value to other scientists, administrators or planners and should be published. The Resource Management Technical Report series is an avenue for the dissemination of preliminary or lengthy material relevant the management of natural resources. Those wishing further information, or intending contributors should contact Natural Resource Management Services, Agriculture Western Australia. Acknowledgements This study is part of a Statewide project called Land and water resources for horticulture, which was funded by the National Landcare Program, Agriculture Western Australia and the University of Western Australia. The help of the following individuals and institutions is gratefully acknowledged: Andrew McCrea and Peter Muirden - Water and Rivers Commission Ian Kininmonth - Agriculture Western Australia Georgina Wilson - Agriculture Western Australia (editing) Shire of Gingin Local Rural Strategy, which helped establish the methods for compiling the land and ground water information described. Addendum: The first edition of this publication had an error in the Busselton Groundwater Area information which affected figures for the shires of Capel and Busselton, and the total figures. This has been corrected in this edition, but still only reflects 1995 data. The figures on the maps that accompany the report were correct. Estimated areas of current horticulture were also adjusted in the summary, in Table 1.2 and in the Shire summaries. Disclaimer The contents of this report were based on the best available information at the time of publication. It is based in part on various assumptions and predictions. Conditions may change over time and conclusions should be interpreted in the light of the latest information available.
