The Michigan State women’s basketball program begins its 17th season of play in the Breslin Center. Since its opening in November 1989, the Spartans have won 72 percent of their home games, com- piling an impressive 162-64 mark during that span. MSU finished the 2004-05 season with a perfect home record for the first time in school history, going 13-0. MSU is 57-14 the last five seasons at home, and 63-21 under Coach McCallie. The $43-million facility is named in honor of “Mr. MSU,” Jack Breslin, who prior to his death in August of 1988, was a senior consultant to former MSU President Dr. John DiBaggio. Designed to replace Jenison Field House, the 14,759-seat arena is truly an all events facility. Besides accommodating the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the arena is used for student com- mencements, concerts, trade shows, conventions, banquets and other functions of interest to both the university and the community. The arena and meeting rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art sound system, built-in facilities for television cameras and show- lighting requirements. Handicapped individuals have convenient ac- cess to the building at any of the major concourse level entrances. In January of 2002, the Michigan State men’s and women’s bas- ketball staffs moved into their new offices in the Alfred Berkowitz Basketball Complex, which was part of a Breslin Ceter expansion project. The new addition added two auxiliary gymnasiums along with expanded office space for the men’s and women’s basketball offices. Thousands of fans from across the state have been flocking to the Breslin Center since Coach P’s arrival, mark- ing a new era for Spartan basketball.

The Spartans drew five of the top 10 crowds in school history in 2005-06. Spartan Fans Michigan State fans are among the most loyal in the nation. MSU has broken its season atten- dance record each of the last four seasons, and ranked in the nation’s top 20 in attendance each year. Last year, the Spartans averaged over 6,700 fans a game, marking the first time MSU cracked the nation’s top 10 in attendance. Midnight Madness The start of basketball season is cause for celebration at MSU. Michigan State has had a tradition of going all out for Midnight Madness, with thousands of fans arriving to see the first practice of the new season.

The 2005 edition of Midnight Madness turned into a celebra- tion broadcast live on ESPNU, as the Spartans raised the banners to their 2005 Big Ten Championships and Final Four appearance. After an autograph session, the crowd got to watch the band, dance and cheerleading squads perform, leading up to Coach P’s entrance in an armored car. Midnight Madness
