NIGEL MARVEN PRESENTA UN ADELANTO Del PROGRAMA WILD NIGEL MARVEN MUESTRA UN ADELANTO DEL PROGRAMA “WILD GUATEMALA” Tomas de pantalla del video: https://bit.ly/35UZTNE Guatemala, 02 de julio de 2020. El presentador británico de documentales de naturaleza, Nigel Marven estuvo en Guatemala entre septiembre y octubre del año anterior y en redes sociales compartió un adelanto sobre lo que los espectadores podrán apreciar en el programa que grabó por Centroamérica, del cual nuestro país forma parte. En la red social de Twitter, Nigel Marven muestra un extracto de un video que tiene una duración de 2 minutos con 12 segundos, con la descripción: Una vista previa de "Wild Guatemala" otro destino fabuloso con paisajes maravillosos, vida salvaje y ruinas mayas. También en su perfil de Instagram el presentador compartió Un adelanto de "Wild Guatemala", este año se presentará una serie de 4 episodios sobre América Central. El clip incluye un tesoro nacional, la lagartija guatemalteca y resplandecientes quetzales en los jardines de Ranchitos del Quetzal. En el video se muestra parte de la cadena volcánica del país, entre ellos Volcán de Pacaya, Fuego, Agua. También se observa el azul Lago de Atitlán en el que se ve a Marven en una lancha, explicando sobre los volcanes que rodean a este magnífico atractivo turístico del país, así como de otras características. Helodermas, monos aulladores, el Parque Nacional Mirador, ríos, serpientes, cocodrilos y lava se muestran en la introducción del adelanto. Posterior a ello Marven explica sobre El Quetzal, ave nacional de Guatemala. Mynor Cordón, Director General del INGUAT señaló “En la emergencia sanitaria que estamos atravesando, las noticias positivas de este tipo ponen en alto nuestro país, nos permiten compartir la riqueza natural y también cultural de Guatemala. Estas imágenes nos hacen sentir orgullosos del potencial turístico de nuestro país, contribuyendo a posicionar las bondades y ventajas de Guatemala por medio de su megadiversidad”. Durante su visita al Parque Arqueológico Yaxhá en Petén en el 2019, Marven resaltó la riqueza de Guatemala en vida silvestre y arqueología. “Hemos disfrutado filmar parte de la arqueología y la vida silvestre que vive alrededor de esta. La Reserva Biosfera Maya es importante para la arqueología al igual que para los animales. Mi equipo está persiguiendo a los monos aulladores negros (Alouatta pigra), una especie endémica regional del norte de Mesoamérica”. La visita de Nigel Marven en Guatemala fue coordinada y gestionada por el Instituto Guatemalteco de Turismo (INGUAT), los operadores turísticos Anywhere - Guatemala Nature, K´uk Tours, la Fundación FUNDASELVA, el experto en aves del Norte de Centroamérica Daniel Aldana y el fotógrafo, biólogo y experto en reptiles, Andrés Novales. Así mismo; se ha contó con el apoyo del Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (CONAP), el Instituto de Antropología e Historia (IDAEH) del Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes (MCD), diversas fundaciones, administradores y directores de áreas protegidas, sitios turísticos, reservas naturales y sector privado organizado. Marven ha estado interesado en la vida salvaje desde muy joven. Estudió en la Universidad de Bristol e inició su carrera en la vida silvestre al unirse a la Unidad de Historia Natural de la BBC. Después de trabajar con David Attenborough durante 12 años, presentó episodios de Walking with Dinosaurs y luego Prehistoric Park antes de formar su propia compañía de producción en el 2003.     Biology has been taught at Bristol – as Botany and Zoology – since before the University was founded in 1909. Bristol has made significant contributions to many fields, from animal cognition and medicinal plants to entomology, evolutionary Game Theory and bird flight – and the BBC Natural History Unit's proximity to the University has led to television careers for a number of graduates! In 1876, University College, the precursor to the University, appointed Dr. Frederick Adolph Leipner as Lecturer in Botany, Zoology and, amusingly, German. Leipner had trained at the Bristol Medical School, but taught botany and natural philosophy, later combining this with teaching in Vegetable Physiology at the Medical School. He became Professor of Botany in 1884 and was a founding member of the Bristol Naturalists' Society, becoming its President in 1893. Bristol today is proud of its interdisciplinary strengths and, among others, offers Joint Honours Degrees in Geology and Biology, and in Psychology and Zoology. A portent of these modern links is seen in one of the University's most notable early appointments, Conwy Lloyd Morgan, appointed as Professor of Zoology and Geology in 1884 and then – somehow fitting in service as Vice- Chancellor – becoming the first Chair in Psychology (and Ethics). Lloyd Morgan is most famous as a pioneer of the study of comparative animal cognition. He was a highly influential figure for the North American Behaviourist movement: “Lloyd Morgan's cannon” is a comparative psychologist's version of Occam's Razor whereby no behaviour should be ascribed to more complex cognitive mechanisms than strictly necessary. He was the first Fellow of the Royal Society to be elected for psychological work.

    Networks of Nature: Stories of Natural History Film-Making from the BBC Gail Davies Thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Submitted 1997 Awarded 1998 University College London Gail Davies Phd: Networks of nature Abstract In May 1953 the first natural history television programme was broadcast from Bristol by naturalist Peter Scott and radio producer Desmond Hawkins. By 1997 the BBC's Natural History Unit has established a global reputation for wildlife films, providing a keystone of the BBC's public service broadcasting charter, playing an important strategic role in television scheduling and occupying a prominent position in a competitive world film market. The BBC's blue-chip natural history programmes regularly bring images of wildlife from all over the globe to British audiences of over 10 million. This thesis traces the changing aesthetics, ethics and economics of natural history film-making at the BBC over this period. It uses archive material, interviews and participant observation to look at how shifting relationships between broadcasting values, scientific and film-making practices are negotiated by individuals within the Unit. Engaging with vocabularies from geography, media studies and science studies, the research contextualises these popular representations of nature within a history of post-war British attitudes to nature and explores the importance of technology, animals and conceptions of the public sphere as additional actors influencing the relationships between nature and culture. This history charts the construction of the actor networks of the Natural History Unit by film- makers and broadcasters as they seek to incorporate and exclude certain practices, technologies and discourses of nature.

For the first time in almost a century, hatchling green turtles crawled down a Bermuda beach and swam into the ocean off the east end of the island to start a long and challenging journey far out at sea. Huge thanks to Frank Burchall who noticed the first hatchling crossing Barry Road in St. George’s in the early morning hours. The small sea turtle was lit up in the headlights of his car and tried to scurry away. Mr. Burchall had the curiosity, caring and foresight to pick up the turtle and alert the Aquarium about his find. Once the tiny sea turtle was identified as a hatchling green sea turtle a flurry of phone calls occurred and a team of excited conservationists descended onto nearby Building Bay Beach to locate the nest. The beach was crisscrossed with tiny turtle tracks but rather than leading from the nest to the sea they were scattered across the sand in all directions indicating newly hatched sea turtles were disoriented by street lights and having a hard time finding the ocean. A total of 11 hatchlings found caught in long grass along the base of a wall at the back of the beach were rescued.
